It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0

Thanks
But isnt bagless more moneysaving in the longrun?0 -
I would go for a Dyson. I've had 2 and they were both great. Here's the Dyson website where you can do a search based on your requirements and they suggest which of their products will suit. http://www.dyson.co.uk/
They don't use bags and virtually every part is separately replaceable so you don't have to buy a new one when one part is faulty. They are also really easy to service yourself so you don't have to spend a fortune taking it in for repairs. The only reason we have had to have 2 is that the first one was made at a time when Dyson had some problems with the plastic being too brittle. The newer ones are much more robust. The uprights are easier on the back but I've used a cylinder one on holiday and it was great.
They are pricey but we bought ours from Cash Converters at a much reduced cost.0 -

'Henry Hoovers' don't necessarily use bags. The black bit you see in the picture comes off, under which is a circular piece of material that prevents dust particles entering the motor compartment. The red bit is simply a bucket into which the sucked up dirt is placed.
If you're the fussy type you can use a bag, but my 'Henry' is over 10 years old and I've never used a bag in it. My Mother has a 'Henry' which is about 15 years old and she has never used a bag in hers, she's got a 4 storey house and it manages.
A couple of my mates work in offices and have spoken to the various cleaners that appear throughout the day and they all seem to use 'Henry' hoovers and none of them bother about bags either. In short a 'Henry' hoover is a damn good workhorse, its got decent suction and is bagless when required, or if you mind getting a little bit of dust on your when emptying it, you can buy a bag and use it
Oh yes and of my various friends that have had Dyson hoovers, 2 of them now have Henry's. Another has Dyson on his speed dial as he's always getting bits replaced. The other bought a Miele and is relatively happy with it, though he says the bags are 'blxxdy expensive'

And then if you're really lazy, there's always a Roomba.

Thanks for the responses
What is it with Dysons?... they're like marmite, people either love them or hate them!
To be honest, the Henry seems to fit my budget the best... not sure its worth spending the extra on a Dyson when the Henry gets such great reviews.
How about the ones in Argos for like £40/£50?... theres a rechargable one which looks really handy for zipping from room to room here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electrolux-ZB271RF-ErgoRapido-Rechargeable-Cleaner/dp/B00076V7B8/sr=1-17/qid=1166489995/ref=sr_1_17/202-3351957-5006230?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen
Not sure its worth doing all this research when they all do the same thing... but the carpets in my flat are really nice and i want them to stay that way!0 -
I gotta give Dyson's another vote. I've had two, the first one is almost 7 years old and still going strong, only bought a second because we spotted a great deal on it. Never had a thing go wrong with either of them.Sigless0

I've been on the Dyson website and to be honest they are coming up way over my budget... I dont think i can justify that cost on a small flat, i was really looking at < £100.
Am i being unrealistic?0 -
I dont think youre being unrealistic! I need a new one too and Id LOVE a Dyson theyre brill, but way too expensive for me. I am looking at a bagless one though and one with a lifetime filter.
