Is there a cheaper alternative to the straw packs of innocent smoothies?

My children drink an Innocent Smoothie every day in their lunch boxes. They love them, it is a good source of one of their 5 a day.

The problem is they are so expensive.

Does anyone know if there is a cheaper equivalent out there?

Thanks

Asda had a cheaper equivalent in the fridges when I was there last week but I cant remember what make they were

I think they were 4 cartons for about £1

They're something like "feel good drinks" and my parrot says they're just as good

  • Hello,
We used to buy some from Aldi, they were just as nice as the innocent smoothies. Can't remember how much they were though. They are definately worth a try. hth

my kids like the asda Del Rivo(?) ones, they are with the cartons of longlife juice / fruit shoots and are £1 for 3. The aldi ones are good too and about the same price.

The asda ones in the chiller, are made with fruit concentrate not fresh fruit. I tend to buy the big carton of asda fresh fruit smoothy (they do big ones that are made without concentrate) and decant into a bottle.

Have you tried signing up to the Innocent News letter as they often send coupons through (although not necessarily always for the straw packs). Also, would it be worth buying the bigger packs and decanting them?

That's what I was going to suggest. Works the same with things like Tropicana. I prefer this (or Sainsburys not from concentrate orange juice). Buy a small bottle of Tropicana, drink it, fill it up from the big bottle. No difference really!

Why not use a hand blender with milk/natural yoghurt and soft fruits? I use a handful of frozen raspberries and sometimes a banana with a jug full of milk and that makes lots and is very healthy. If you don't use banana you would need to sweeten, either by using sugar/jam or sweetener.

You can also try this with apple or orange juice (apple and raspberry is lovely but it also works with tinned peaches) which tastes rather like a J20.

If you buy value cartons of fruit juice, tinned fruit and basics natural yoghurt from Aldi etc. it's a cheap way of doing it.

I recently found Tesco's own Fruit Slurpers which are next to the tinned fruit in our store. £1.59 for 4x90ml, mostly fruit puree with a bit of concentrated apple juice, in 4 flavours. Squeezy pack goes down well with my kids. I love the Innocent smoothies but they are so expensive (£2 in Sains ATM though).

Just looking at pack sizes, my fruit slurpers work out more!
However they are long life and the portion is right for my kids.
And they're not full of crap like e numbers and sweeteners.

    HTH?

Hey, have you tried 99p or £1 shops, the £1 shop in Canterbury has lots of cartons of juices and I usually find the big brands in there. Hope this helps.
