Anyone dealt with First National?

Hi everyone

We are currently awaiting our mortgage offer from First National, has anyone used these before?

Also we are hoping to get a 3 year fixed rate of 5.49% - any thoughts? I think this is a little high to reflect our credit history.

Thanks
Charlotte

  • Hi Charlotte, did you arrange this yourself or througha broker?

I use first national regularly. They are an OK company, the products they market reflect the risks associated in sub prime/non conforming quite fairly in my opinion.

You might have a wait for the mortgage offer - they currently have a ten day backlog.

I used them for a foreign house purchase when they were British Mortgages Abroad, they changed to First National a couple of years ago and I had a mortgage with them for about 5 years in total, all smooth going.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
  • Thanks for the reply mortgage mamma

My Mortgage broker has arranged it, a fantastic lady IMO!

A ten day backlog??? Jeesh, that's a pity. I had never heard of them before but trust my broker, she is working really hard to find us the best deal.

So far we hope to get 5.49% fixed for 3yr on IO. As we have a car loan for the next 3 years so we will remortgage when that is paid and go repayment. We also have an ISA set up that we are paying into (albeit small amounts) in the meantime.

I guess I am just getting a little tetchy after reading some other threads - as we are lending around 4.5 times my DH's income and 85% LTV

Scary stuff huh? Even though my affordability calculations work out :j We do have 2 little babies:eek:

I use them and have had no problems. As pointed out above, they are now owned by GE, so you should have no worries about them disappearing with your money or your house. Found the staff there very helpful too.
  • My mortgage is with them, seem ok.

I have taken a mortgage out from them on 14th Nov, there charges were £99, which 3 weeks later we got told went up £599 and we have to pay it. I am going to complain about this along with another rip off charge of a one-off fee of £25 for not taking building contents with them.

I am absoultely disguted with with the mortgage being mis-sold like this.

My rate I got is 5.29% for 2 years (product fixed for 2yrs near prime+)
  • we're with them at the moment but in the process of switching to a better deal. but anyway, not a problem in the 3 years we've been with them (first national then GE money). no mistakes, they are just too expensive on our current 7.29
