Acer Z5700 in Argos

After reading the grabbit board for a while, thought I'd post my first grabbit. In the Argos e-mail, this computer was advertised.

Reduced from £699 to £499.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5083747.htm

I did a search on other retailers to see if this is being sold cheaper elsewhere, and Comet had it as discontinued stock and it would have costed about £800, and Amazon had some, but not the exact model (ie slightly more RAM, and Hard drive) in the £800 region (and a few out of stock)

Would be interesting to see what others think. Is this a good grabbit, or would your £500 be better spent on a better computer/monitor package elsewhere?

i'm intrigued by this but i have a few reservations

even after looking for similar products on amazon i couldn't tell if this is an integrated graphics card or one that can be pulled and replaced (i prefer nvidia)

also how much vram does this beastie have? i need at least a gig, preferably more

if anyone knows i'd appreciate it as i'm seriously considering this, i desperately need to replace my nearly 6 year old geriatric computer

It does have integrated graphics which cannot be changed - no room. More RAM can be added but that's about the only upgrade that is available.

Unless your 6 yr old geriatric was superpowered when you got it, I'd think that the Acer would be much more efficient. I've had mine for almost 4 months. It more than meets my requirements. It replaced a 4 yr old system which had been top of the range non-gaming system.

I don't use the touchscreen very often, but having a 23" monitor is wonderful.

If you have a currys or PC World nearby go and have as look there. They don't have this model any more but you can see what the Acer system is like. Hope you like it.

It wasn't actually reduced from £699.99 it was previously listed at £599.99 so a saving of £100 not £200. £699.99 is just the RRP.

Argos are getting rather sneaky with their 'reductions'.

thanks for the response! if it's an integrated graphics card how can i add more vram (video ram not normal ram)? i thought that was part of the graphics card you bought, am i wrong there?

mine was top of the line when i bought it, sadly though i hadn't forseen more foray into the various virtual worlds where i make a reasonable sum of money selling some of my graphics and it's starting to struggle as they continue to evolve and become more demanding. i'm wanting something that can keep up with that thus why a video ram of at least 1 gig min is a must, preferably i'd like 2gig, the 3 gig normal ram is just fine though and should be sufficient, it's a shame they aren't more forthcoming about these specifics, when i bought my current machine this information was standard, now a lot of the descriptions don't tell you and make me very hesitant.

i'm not one to add components later but if i could get a good machine with a replaceable graphics card i might make an exception. i'll do some research on the intel integrated card though and see what the reviews are for my needs, who knows it might be fine... does anyone have any idea how long this sale is supposed to last or are these just end of line units?

When I was researching mine they were on offer at £599.99 in Argos, then they went up to £699.99.

Confuzzled, I'm not sure if the graphics are good enough for what you want to do, but you can find more details on the Acer website. How can I find out from mine how much video RAM is included?

i don't know, normally it says after it lists the graphics card, normally listed as vram, i'm only running on 512vram now and it's def not enough for my needs

There is a similar cheaper option here, although the Argos machine is definately better: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_All-in-One_Touchscreen_PC_Z3_1081983.html

£399 - slightly smaller screen and downgraded processor.

This one also worth a look: http://www.icraft-pc.co.uk/product673947_3221684.aspx

£455 - same size monitor, more hdd space but "may have refurbished parts"

The graphics is integrated into the cpu and doesn't have any vram, it shares the system ram, i wouldn't reccomend this for any kind of graphics work.
