Hiya Taz,
This might not be the answer you're looking for as I'm studying Level 4 AAT in college, but over the years I've mixed and matched textbooks from both to help me through the course. I can only assume that whichever you go for, you will be working from only those textbooks as you study.
I found that BPP textbooks were helpful, plain English and lots of good examples (step-by-steps, tasks and chapter questions etc), whereas Kaplan seem to have gaps/vagueness in the topics and examples which seem to be overcomplicated...
Plus, I prefer the layouts of the BPP revision books and passcards.
So in terms of learning style and value for money, I prefer BPP.
Good luck with your studies!

we use BPP at work asnd they have a fair pass rate. Ask Kaplan what their pass rate is?Debt free 4th April 2007.

Hi Taz, i've used Kaplan distance learning. To be honest I don't think there is much difference between them (they both have their faults from what I've heard). If you have a look at the aat forums, the topic of which provider to choose is often debated...
I am miffed at Kaplan at the moment because I haven't found them very helpful at level 4, plus the standards/syllabus has changed so it's a bit chaotic. Levels 2 & 3 however were ok - their textbooks are detailed, a bit OTT in places and a few mistakes, but I've found that if you work hard and practice all the questions, you should then be able to pass an exam fairly confidently. Just don't use them at level 4 because their crap!
Whoever you choose, you'll obviously have to put in the work yourself regardless of the providers content - If it's service/support your after maybe test them out by seeing how quickly they get back to you, what their like on the phone etc?0 -
Have you contacted your local FE College to see what options they have?
It may be cheaper with more support.0 -
I always studied with Kaplan, as it was cheaper when I started and was never dissapointed and never felt the need to change. But then I attended classes at the weekends. I also used BPP revision CD for listening. I prefered Kaplan's books though (but I am ACCA, not AAT).
My best friend on the other hand uses BPP. And swears by them. And I swear by Kaplan!
There is little if any difference between them and it depends on the area and tutors for the area! For people like me who attended classes, location and feeling of the place made big difference.
You are going to study online... Kaplan has a demo on their website if I am not mistaken, I bet BPP will as well... or you can contact them for demo and see what feels better for you!
Thay are both approved by the professional bodies so you cannot go wrong.0 -
I have used both BBP & Kaplan in the past and found Kaplan to be slighlty better.
There is a website that I used for my final three exams in conjunction with Kaplan books and passed no problem. It is a free resources website for ACCA & AAT students and uses 'lectures' from various providers and shows them in podcast form. It is www.opentuition.com, and I can highly recommend it.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
I've finished my degree in accountancy at university last month and now planning to learn the ACCA from September. I will get exemptions from 7 F modules so will have to do the 7 remaining ACCA modules and 3 years work experience to complete the ACCA. I'm not sure whether I should study with Kaplan or BPP. Any suggestions of which one is better will be useful in helping me decide which one to chose. Also which is the best way to learn the ACCA with either of them? Is it better to learn the ACCA from home with them or at their learning centres?0

First I should declare my interests I have worked in the past for BPP and I now work for another training provider called "First Intuition"
I know that the guys that run our AAT online courses had an offer running in the AAT magazine where you could get your first AAT course free as a trial. I think you needed a code but it may be worth dropping them a line to see if there are any free courses still available. The office that manages the AAT online learning is in Cambridge and you can email them at the following address!

I hope it is ok to post this here if not let me know and I can remove it!0 -
I don't think you can really say that one is better than the other as they are both good at what they do and are the market leaders. They may differ slightly in what they offer and their style of teaching so one may suit you more than the other.
There are other learning providers that you could consider. I've heard of people using their local college, First Intuition, Acorn, etc.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
