I bet the older ones are are far better made. I'm afraid I don't know anyone who could hand one down to me, but just returned from Sainsburys with one so too late for me.
The quality is not great TBH seems it may squash under pressure, but looks pretty useful.
If anyone else is considering one, it says is for dry ingredients only and has the following
OZ and GRMs measure for:
Rolled Oats
Fresh Breadcrumbs
Desiccated Coconut
Cornflour
Cocoa
Ground Almonds
Suet
Sugar
Rice
Haricots
Lentils
Beans
Peas
Barley
Sultanas
Tapioca
Ground Rice
Currants
Semolina
Raisins
Custard Powder
Flour
Icing Sugar
and English and American cups, Millilitres and Pints (although it IS for dry ingredients -suppose its because it might leak, but mine doesn't yet- tried it)0 -
Hi jeanniebeanie,
My lovely sister bought me one of these a couple of years ago....it's fabulous and I wouldn't be without it.I've used mine for liquids and it doesn't leak.

I found one in a second hand shop last year for £1. I love mine but wish I had one of the glass ones like I saw in a holiday home we rented in France on year. Mine does leak but I don't fill it up and leave it. So I only lose a couple of drops of fluid. It's a real shame that they aren't made so well.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

I bought mine some time ago in Sainsbury's and had enough Nectar points to buy it outright with them!
My mum liked it so much though that I still ended up spending £5 buying one for her as part of her birthday present!
I loved the review on Amazon that asked why no-one had thought of this before and someone else replied that they'd been around for fifty years!! :rotfl::TI'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!0 -
I am that old that although I know about gms I still use lbs and ozs.I know a kilo is about 2 and a quarter lbs but I learned to cook with lbs and ozs and most of my recipe books are in imperial measures.I weigh everything on my old scales which I have had for 47 years ,they are as old as the hills but I see no point in buying new ones as my old ones have worked fine for me.But then I am a tightfisted old granny anyway
:):).
