  • I hope by time I get to old age the right to die has come in - I would hate to not be able to look after myself and dread if my parents ever get to a stage (there mid 60s) where they could do nothing for themselves. Id like them to go peacefully having enjoyed there lives and not hanging on to the end in pain and misery.

I'd rather be cared for by professionals than relatives who were only doing it so they could get their hands on my money!

But would you be happy for those "professionals" not the carers, but the shareholders, to earn a nice big profit off the back of it?

My dad went very quickly in the end, in hospital, he never wanted to spend time in the "Departure Lounge" as he called called these homes.

Most of our incomes go to shareholders in one way or the other, whether money spent in supermarkets, paid to utility companies or to buy goods.

Most private pensions are funded by shares as well.

The reports I have seen on this sector suggest that Private Equity Investors thought they were a good punt and worthy of their attention.

If an older person stays at home until they die, they have to pay all the costs associated with their home and often contribute towards any carers who come in. Why should those who go into a care home get all that for free?
    Do they?
I believe they get all their income taken except for c. £28 per week for personal items.

No - the point is that some people (in particular the OP) seem to be under the misapprehension that they should.

A misapprehension suggests your opinion is right and that of the OP is wrong.

The OP is entitle to their opinion.

Yes, they do, but there are a lot of pensioners living in their own homes who don't have that much money spare at the end of each week by the time they've paid the utilities, food, insurance, etc, and put savings away for when the fridge packs up or the roof starts leaking.
