Take Home Salary 28,000 - HELP!
summer2011_2
I have just started a new job - my salary is £28,000 per year
My first pay came in at £1,639.31
I checked this on The Salary Calculator and listentotaxman.co.uk and they both state I should have a 'take home salary' of £1,783.53 or £1,783.50
I have spoken to my employer who insited the figure of £1,639.31 is correct as take is payable @ 20% and NI is @ 12% - that means absolutely nothing to me...
All I know is The Salary Calculator has been spot on with my 'take home salary' during all my previous jobs.
Can anyone shed any light??
Thanks

Is your tax code correct on your payslip?
And is the first pay you received for a whole months work? Or was it part of a month if you just started?0 -
Have you been auto enrolled for a pension scheme?0

Looks to me like your employers haven't included the £7,500 odd of wages we get "free".Per Mare Per Terram0

compare your payslip to the salary calculator. Your payslip will have all your deductions on so you can check where the additional has come from; whether it's the tax, NI or something else.
and like Honeypop said, check your taxcode. If you've started a new job they might not have your tax code on the system so like relic says, you'll be on BR and not deducting the tax free amount.0 -
other things listed, pension, student loan, etc.0

Thank you all!
I havent been enrolled on a pension scheme.
I started at the begining of the month.
My tax code is correct on my payslip
Really confused!0 -
if you started at the beginning of the month and just received your first payslip then the pay doesn't look like it's from the first of the month.
First thing would be to compare all deductions on The Salary Calculator to see where the difference is coming from, and then probably wait till your second pay slip and see what that says.0 -
What does your payslip say exactly then, under each deduction?0

Somthing like this?0 -
Sounds like they have wrongly charged you 20% tax on your tax free allowance of £622.92 pcm (works out about £125). Either that or they have got your salary wrong and think it's £25.5k.0
