* COFFEE: how we finally found our bargain *

  • Hern, many thanks for the measurements. I am sure I could make a space somewhere - after all I'd be getting rid of 2 Bialetti Stovetops and if I move my Remoska slightly ... Anyway, I would only have it temporarily as it would be moving with my son (if I am not too attached to it by October). He had wanted me to buy him one for last Christmas but I didn't want to spend a fortune and then find that some other student had taken a fancy to it at my expense! However at the previous Dixon's price, it seemed worth the risk. Would certainly be cheaper than his visits to Costa! I think a tin of Illy coffe is bad enough at nearly £6 and must get around to working out how many cups I get out of the tin.

Please remember to let us know how you get on with the various different Tassimo flavours.

Thanks for a great review Hern, very helpful :T

Oh dear,I had never thought of buying one of these machines and now I really want one.I have a stove-top Bialetti and then use an Aerolatte to froth up milk, which does make a reasonable cappuccino,my favourite, but it's still not as good as Costa or Cafe Nero.

I am not sure if I have enough space on my worktop to put yet another gadget,I will have a look at the actual size in a store tomorrow.

    Very tempted now :D

Thanks organic / annie / rutherford, albeit I still feel a bit daft in posting news of a bargain that then ceases to be a bargain in the blink of an eye.

As noted, I'm still wondering if this £65 is a kind of 'base price' that rotates around the UK supply chain, with Dixons one moment and, let's say, Amazon the next and Argos or Comet etc thereafter. I'm assuming, the manufacturer (Bosch, in this case) kind of subsidises -- or at least, slashes its margin -- on a turn-by-turn basis.

(Just by way of example: our friends with the Krups Dolce Gusta machine from Argos said they were especiallyannoyed about having to return it because they "had missed" the month when it was on Argos at half price, i.e., not the £89 'discounted price' they paid but something like fifty quid.

(Assuming, therefore, that Comet is currently stuck with being the UK benchmark guide to a full retail price -- £120 -- then Dixons came in at nearly half price, whilst Argos and Amazon and Laskys etc continued to float at the £88 standard 'discounted price'. So next month, then, the half price that Argos uniquely ran for a short time on the Krups could feasibly change to become half price from Argos, or another retailer, for a short time on the Bosch.)

Anyway! I really hope so. And yes, I'll definitely pop back here and bore everyone to tears with tales of the Tassimo drinkies. . . :)

we ordered 9 packs of coffees, teas, chocolates, and speciality drinks, a total of 112 drinks. The cost was £11.93p.

We also went to Amazon and ordered 5 packs of Kenco Columbian at 16 coffees per pack for £15 (free delivery). So that's 80 coffees.

....... no mess to clean up afterwards (the T-Disks are recyclable plastics.)

Potentially those 192 discs & 14 foil bags they were packed in could mean £4.12 raised for the charity or school of your choice as well.
Numerous local authorities will not recycle Tassimo discs even though they are 100% recyclable but terracycle will pay the postage (& even provide a box to post them in if needed), they will then upcycle both the discs & the foil wrappers into new products then on top of that they will pay 2p to the charity or school of your choice for each disc or wrapper you send them.

    Further details on their website:
    http://www.terracycle.co.uk/brigades/the-tassimo-brigade.html?locale=en-UK

They have similar schemes for other product packaging too.

Frugal: I really can't thank you enough for that -- it's exactly the sort of information everyone needs if they're serious about recycling. I hadn't realised there was any kind of difficulty re T-Discs and that's depressing news -- but it's more than countered by your info about teracycle's scheme.

I've just sent you a latte by way of thanks, hope it lands safely and doesn't wreck your keyboard.:)
