How much disposable Income

Options
Hello

Just wondering with all the doom and gloom about, what people's average monthly disposal income is after all bills are paid?

It will range from those who have nothing left at the end of the month, or even be deeper in debt, up to those who will come in and say they are earning £100,000's.

There's a thread on here about "How much do you earn" try reading it you will see.
  • thanks for directing me to the thread. Ill take a look. Im just curious to see where i stand...i think i could do with someone who will look after my money and just give me a weekly allowance. I have discpline in any other aspect of my life apart from my money!!!

Try listing everything you spend, and I mean everything.

If you can, make a spreadsheet where you can enter how much money you have at the start of the month, enter how much you spend, and what on, then it tells you how much you have left.

It really helps if you can see what you are spending each day.

Nothing disposable at the moment, as I try to snowball anything I have left into paying off debts. Once I'm debt free I should have about £500 disposable per month.
  • Listing incomings against outgoings really is a useful way of tracking your spending. I did this in a basic spreadsheet and realised I really was wasting quite a lot of money every month.
A major outgoing is obviously food, and I found the Sainsburys meal planner is a great way to keep food bills to under £50 a week, which feeds a family of 4 and can be bulked up to provide lunches too!
Online banking with Lloyds TSB also automatically breaks down how you spend your money into different groups - leisure, food, etc, but you can customise that..something else I found really helpful in getting my finances in order.
Cutting down alcohol (as painful as it may be) is also a great way to save oodles each month!
Hope my ramblings make some sort of sense!
    All the best

I have lots of disposable income...my wife disposes of it.

Setup a simple bank account and have a standing order with spending money transferred to it. Then get rid of the card your salary goes into :)
