Booker Management Services

Anyone heard of BMS - Booker Management Services Limited of Newton Abbot?

I received a letter from them recently claiming I owed money to Barclays for a Masterloan.

The letter was pretty odd in that

a) It suggested I had an outstanding balance of £814.99
b) They had been 'sold' the debt from a company called B N Finance Limited who in turn seemed to have received it from HLCF?
c) A letter supposedly from Barclays was attached but with no office address on it.
d) All letters were signed by the same person! (pp in the case of Barclays).

Fortunately I keep a lot of original financial agreements (as I've been stung before with additional fees) and I know I did have a Masterloan with Barclays dated May 1996.

I've ignored the letter from BMS as I'm assuming this is just a scam.

I have moved house several times since 1996 and always on the Electoral Roll.

Should I reply or just 'file' their letter?

  • I'd be tempted to file it in the bin. If you write back state you do not aknowledge the debt and its unenforceable as its over 6 years old.

Perhaps just keep hold of it for now. If they keep 'bugging' you then take further action to address the problem.

I had dealings with them re a barclays account. They kept hounding me for full payment even though I had arranged a payment plan with them, and wanted to up my payments every 6 months even though my incomings/outgoings had not changed. Was glad to pay them off in the end
  • I know these threads were posted sometime ago but are any of you still around to give the outcome of the problem. i e did you ignore them? Did they go away? Is it a scam? I have had a request for money also that just doesnt add up.

    Thanks.

If you have a very old debt against which you have apid nothing in the last six years (5 in Scotland), and which you have not acknowledged in writing in that time, then it is statute barred.

This means the debt still exists but if you tell the creditor that you are not going to pay, they cannot mark your credit record or take any legal action against you and are required to cease contacting you.

I have to say that some DCas take a little time to understand the situation as they do not like getting nothing, but the law and the OFT are on your side.

  • RAS,
Thanks for the info very helpfull. I have phoned the company and asked for proof, ie the credit agreement i signed and all relating documentation to prove that indeed there is a debt to pay. Thay informed me that barclays still hold those documents and that it will cost me ten pounds to get that information from them. I will take your advice and write to the Dca stating that i do not acknowledge the debt and have no intention of paying.

I take it this is a favourable course of action.

    Hiya again.

As long as you have not paid or acknowledged in writing, in six years it is statute barred unless there is a ccj ON IT. They may tell you that you have acknowledged the debt by calling which is not true.

Do you have a statute barred letter template?

As for the £10, if you were to send a CCA request, then the fee is £1, so it appears that there are training needs in Newton Abbot.

I recently checked my credit file with experian - then a couple of days later a friend advised me that a letter had turned up at an old address from Booker Management services.

I've not seen the letter but by all accounts it is a hefty package with all sorts of forms and the gist of it is that they bought the debt and I owe them money.

My credit file shows this information -

Company name: BARCLAYCARD Account type: Credit card / Store card Started: 08/10/1997 Default Balance: £ 633 Current Balance: £633

    Defaulted On: 31/12/2004

File Updated for the Period to: 10/12/2006

I was of the belief I had arranged a short settlement with Barclays about 4 years ago ? Can anyone advise me to my position in in this situation ?

    Many thanks
  • Hi guys, I am new to all of this and some advice would be much appreciated as we have our first baby on the way and really don't need this stress. I had a Barclays loan which defaulted back in 2001 and it has subsequently gone from my credit file. Booker Management Services took over the debt from Barclays and I have always paid my monthly payment on time every month. I took a loan out in Jan and paid them £4000 of my £9000 debt on the premise that I could only afford £60 per month for the for seeable future which was agreed by the lady I spoke to. They have now said I need to pay £100 and when I argued this advising them to listen to the call, they have told me that they dont record calls and if I dont pay they will apply to put a charge on my house?? I really cannot afford this monthly payment. Can they do that on an unsecured loan that is approx 8 yrs old?? A few other things in my favour is I made an offer to Barclays before Booker were on the scene and they refused as it was being sold? I have clearly made an effort to clear this to no avail. PLEASE HELP GUYS!!
  • Hi all, my mum received a letter from Booker Management Services saying that she owed £770.56. All i did was send an e-mail to "contact @ bookerdevon.co.uk" saying the following (feel free to copy & paste this into your own email)

    """To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to you in regards to a letter i received through the post in regards to an account i owe £770.56 to. After investigating this letter and account, I REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE this account and debt and i see the debt as un-enforceable due to non-acknowledgement of this debt for at least 6 years. Due to the rules and regulations your company is legally bound by, you are NOT allowed to negatively note my credit file.

Following receipt of this e-mail, your duty now is to disregard this account, the only reason i am willing to be contacted by yourselves is to confirm that this e-mail has been received and your intent to follow these instructions or to inform me that i am required to hand write a letter to yourselves detailing this, which i fully understand i may be required to do.

Due to the resources i have access to, i am aware that The Office of Fair Trading and the Consumer Credit Act will be willing to investigate this matter on my behalf and I WILL be informing them of this matter.

I have proof that this e-mail has been sent and the date and time of my distribution. I will be documenting dates and times of any contact received by yourselves and the only contact methods i will accept are via e-mail to (My email) or post to the address you hold on file now, so i am able to make copies of your contact.

If these instructions are not followed, i will be forced to take this matter further and instruct a legal advisor, which may result in legal proceedings being filed against your company.

I now consider this matter to be closed.

    Yours Sincerely """"

    i sent this e-mail on 10/6/10 at 6.20pm, i got a letter (on 14/6/10) from them saying...

"Thank you for your recent correspondence, the contents of which we note.
Please be advised that on this occasion we will close your account and will not contact you any further.

If you do the same you should have the same result.

P.S Dont forget to relate it to yourself (give them your reference number) and that will be the end of that.

If you found this useful, let me know, send me an email to leeellem @ yahoo.com

    Thanks All,
