Based on the advice yesterday i'm going to have a good look through my accounts and do some amendments as I don't think I have it quite right.
My question. How do you show the proper amount for reinbursment only jobs?
I enter what I get from the company and what I spend which leaves me in a negative. I assume I just leave the column spent blank? Which will show the income but no spent amount so i'm in a plus figure?
Also, What have people done about the GAP Supermarkets? You get xx to spend and you have to spent 90% of that money in store. So, technically you have worked for very very little. I would assume arguing that would be silly as you haven't done alll that work for that little. But, one the other hand I have done one on an increased fee which I feel I could argue was done for the money not the shopping.
any help appreciated.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
For a single stand alone reimbursement job if you don't think you've got a reason to argue that you were running it as a loss then I'd put
Income = reimbursement
Expenses = Mileage / Printing etc (all purchases are disallowable expenses so are ignored).
Gap Supermarkets:- One option would be to take the 2 defined counter purchases as an allowable business expense and assume the 'rest' as private use and therefore don't include on your return depends on what you're happy arguing!0 -
AH, good way of looking at it. Thank you very much for that.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

But surely if you are being audited and include reimbursement as payment on one job then you'll have to declare and include it on ALL jobs. The taxman isn't going to let you pick and choose I'm afraid.
And the only way you'd be audited is if the taxman got in touch with one of the MS companies first and they gave him your details. So to minimise you tax payments keep your work for different companies totally separate. So that when he asks to see your work from company X you'll then be able to pull that file and show him without him asking about who all these other companies were that you had worked with.0 -
I know we've been through this before, but do we really need an alert for jobs we've already received emails about from the MS co...? :think:
I didn't get an email this time, yet when I had a look there was a couple in the next town, where I go sometimes if I can pick up a few jobs to make it worthwhile.
So I'm glad of the alert. I know there will be the same old about people getting email notifications from the alerts thread and stopping to have a look while they're out and about. But that's fairly simple these days on phones, plus most have agreed in the past when this has been discussed that they would rather get a few unnecessary alerts than people feel that they shouldn't post them in case it annoys people, which can lead to people missing out.Half of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700 -

Umm, well having never been audited, I obviously don't know the ins and outs of it, but I would strongly guess that's a bit b0ll0cks?!?
Using the example of Mr Self Employed Plumber, if he was being randomly audited, and says, Ah, here is the details of the work I've done for Mr Bloggs in Atown, they are just going to stop there, rather than asking for details about the work he has done for Mr Smith in Btown and all his other customers?!?Half of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700 -
