Lidl do Trawlic Frozen Salmon. Farmed in Norway. 2 Fillets. 250g. £2.99.

They also do Trawlic Frozen 'Wild' Salmon. Cannot remember origin... Pacific? 2 Fillets. 250g. Always cheaper than the farmed salmon.

I would expect the 'wild' salmon to be more expensive & tastier than the farmed salmon, however, I consistently find the farmed salmon to be much tastier than the 'wild', & well worth the extra cost.

Any thoughts as to why the 'wild' salmon is cheaper & inferior?

Wild salmon - you do not have to pay to keep the salmon or feed it etc.

However you also have no control over it. Eg corn fed chicken. People prefer the flavour of it. With farmed salmon you choose what it eats. Wild salmon - can be anything along the river. So may vary depends where it comes from.

There will be different grades of wild salmon. Lidl may take the cheaper end of the spectrum for wild.

Different species of salmon?

Is the wild salmon tougher? eg is the salmon is swimming all day, so it may be leaner which means it will be less succulent etc.

Not tried both salmon next to each to see the difference myself.

the wild salmon definitely has a very different texture, it has less fat so can be dry unless cooked carefully
