Cheap meats?

Tried Ocado for the first time the other day (Cashback from Mysupermarket + Ocado, plus save £15 on your first shop!)

I wanted a cheap roast beef or something similar (probably lamb) so I got a rolled brisket.

It was about £4.

I looked up a recipe and put it in the oven with some stock, shallots, leeks etc, but it came out very tough, chewy, dry and with big bits of fat.

Are there any cheap bits of meat suitable for roasting that aren't false economy in this way?

Cheers!

Brisket is amazingly tastly if cooked very slowly eg in slow cooker. You cannot roast it. Look for the regular beef offers in Sainsburys when roasting joints like topside, silverside or top rump are about £5-6 per kg, and freeze. If you buy a big log, cut in half or even thirds, wrap well and freeze.
Makro also have offers on beef but come in huge lumps.

I did my brisket in the pressure cooker on the weekend, cut into chunks with loads of veg. It came oiut very tender that way and very tasty.
The pressure cooker's transformed my cookery and saving me on gas, the stew took about 20 minutes.
