Release of Standard Security - fees

Hi hoping for some help with this as i cannot find a thread that answers my query

I live in Scotland and recently paid off my mortgage with the Halifax. I have had my title deeds returned to me with a letter to say,

"The standard security with the Land Registry of Scotland, which you signed over your property to secure the mortgage, is still registered. We recommend that you now take your deeds to a solicitor of your choice so that they can prepare a discharge document to have this removed."

Can someone advise me if it is necessary for me to do this, could i do it myself without using a solicitor, and if i do use a solicitor what the likely fees would be? ---- the halifax initially told me they would arrange this but then have told me on the phone today they no longer get involved in this part.
