I've never yet seen it mentioned in the forums - if you live in an Energy Saving Trust 'Home Insulation Area' there is a £4000 interest free loan available for installing renewables such as solar PV. Usually these areas are off mains gas and generally lower income areas. Here is a link to the map showing the areas: (no link as I'm not allowed) Google Energy Savings Trust Home Insulation Scheme and get to the map.
I managed to get one - don't know if it's for all UK or just Scotland.
My 4kW system was £12995 - not the cheapest I was offered, but the cheapest quote from a company I felt I could trust.
I remortgaged to get the remaining funds in place and the maths worked out well in my favour.

Checked back on tesco's again as you recommended, Cardew, and WOOHOOO! Limited availability offer 20% off Solar PV: http://www.tescohomeefficiency.com/solar-electricity/

ETA: just quoted £11599 for 3.91kWp system by Tesco, 17 Sharp panels, will post more details when I have them
    Hi

Just a few pointers to be aware of with that particular supplier ......

The inverter which they quoted me for a 4kWp system was a SB3300, which would simply 'clip' generation in good conditions resulting in lost opportunity, they wouldn't confirm that they would put the inverter in the garage, there was a huge additional charge for 'unstandard' scaffolding (whatever 'unstandard' means), a Sunnybeam monitor would cost around £500 extra .... and on .... and on ..... I'm sure that others on the forum had the same experience, so don't assume that the final system price will reflect their 'list' price.

Incidentally, I received another 'customer satisfaction' survey call from them at some time within the last month or so asking whether we had gone ahead with another supplier or were still interested in their offering .... probably the longest telephone survey they'd had in a while ;):D

@BornAtTheRightTime can you run this past me. The way I see it is that within just over 2 hours of from Cardews post you committed yourself to £11.5K with Tesco, how did that work. Out of interest? Over the phone perhaps.

Um. Surprised that's what you thought I meant, quite honestly. All I committed to was a survey, which was carried out within 24 hours of my call, and I am now waiting on a full proposal from the subcontractor (Paynes Energy Solutions).

I wasn't born yesterday you know! :rotfl:
    3.9kWp solar PV installed 21 Sept 2011, due S and 42° roof.
17,011kWh generated as at 30 September 2016 - system has now paid for itself.
  • Well I previously had tescos quote in december, 10 panels 11052.66 at 2.35kwp (due to the size of my roof) although this compared to other quotes at the time, i decided it was still too expensive... Now the 20% deal has kicked in and I can get a 2.30kwp deal.. at 8499 the .5 difference is because they no longer make/supply those panels.
My neighbour used Tescos and he says it is working out well. And now I have finally commited to the deal... :-) as the payback time now is much better. I think even if i sold now the solar pannels on the roof would prob increase my home value by 5k and with prices of electricty continuing to rise I think its a great deal.....!
The feed in tarrif is what makes it worth while in the long run.

I got a 3.9kw for 11.5k with a sunny beam & i am really happy with system & performance , had over 11 quotes i felt this company gave a trusting vibe that was the main reason for choosing them along with price & products.

    solar power to the people.
