Docs for a full mortgage application - Just 1 payslip?

Hi there.
We've just submitted an online mortgage application to ING. In the end of the process we got a personalised checklist of all documents we need to send them to consider our application. What is strange is that they are only asking us to send them 1 payslip - my most recent payslip, and that's all.

The application is a joint one, for me and hubby. But they are not asking for any of our passports, not for a proof of address or any confirmation of his payslip - but only for 1 payslip from me. Is this unusual?

Me thinks it might be a good idea to still send them more docs, just in case, such as a certified copy of our passports and a proof of address (utility bill) - those are the docs from their 'standard' list of docs for mortgage, and maybe a hubby's payslip as well?

Or should I stick to what they say and send just one payslip? my concern is that I wouldn't want the process of getting a mortgage offer to be too long, and want the bank to have all the docs they might possibly need to make a decision.

Also am a bit concerned that we're here on Tier 1 visa's but ING doesn't seem to be interested in this info, as they don't ask for our passports or for any visa's... Can they later on try to reject us on this basis saying "we didn't know you were not UK citizens cause you didn't provide us with this info... but now we know and will not give you mortgage because of that"

Any thoughts please?

I dont know about the visa side...

but I only provided one payslip when I remortgaged recently
  • That does sound quite strange. They might ask for more documents at a later stage if required.

I know that most of the lenders require a 2 year visa whther you are on Tier 1 or earlier HSMP or work permit.

I think you should call them and confirm it before you waste more time and money.

If remortgaging with the same bank then it would be more understandable. But we are taking our 1st mortgage, so thinking I should call them...

We are remortgaging from Britannia Building Society to the Coventry Building Society. Exactly the same request from our broker.

I assume ID checks are covered by our existing bank account and mortgage and our wages will be verified by our employers. However our payslips do show our salary.

The Britannia required no income checks had we stayed with them but we overpaying and have a low LTV.

Checking income is at the lender's discretion, so they can ask for three months and a P60, or nothing.

However, every institution in a process has to verify ID and evidence of address. Your broker should do it and so should the lender you're moving to. You'll probably be asked for it later, if you haven't so far.

I am on Tier1 as well with less than 2 years left. I did mentioned this to lender on phone and I confirmed 3 times. They have done the application and called me today to fax proof of deposit and that's all. No passport or any other id card.
I am hoping there is no issues at a later stage as I have tried confirming everything beforehand.

Just had our mortgage offer - no ID verification required.

10 days from application to offer.

Lender has probably done an electronic ID verification which would remove the need for physical ID

Each organisation can choose how it satisfies the money laundering requirements. The usual way is to take a copy of one identification item and one address item. However, electronic checks can also be carried out. Provided each organisation in the process can add to the audit trail required by the Police in the event of an investigation, they are safe.
