Open and direct (formerly equity) 40% increase in car insurance!!!

My mum's insurance renewal came in from Open & Direct a few weeks ago!!! She does very little miles in a year as she is a pensioner. £387 for a year!!!! up from £270 last year. I thought she was going to have a fit. I called them but the best they could do was £320. I went on line and got a few quotes the best was Allianz Direct £239. She was insured with Allianz through the broker!! lets you she what they are making. Needless to say she went direct with Allianz!.
My insurance also came in a couple of weeks ago. I think I paid £300 last year. My renewal was for £330! Not too bad but I thought I get a few quotes. I could get it for £250 and rang Open & Direct and they were able to match it. Soo i paid the £300 and got £50 cashback!

It pays to shop around.

If you're in the Civil Service their accredited broker (Staff Services) 90315800 use Axa NI. My renewal came in this year at £580 for a Vrs Octavia. I went online and found Direct Line quoting £391. Rang Staff Services and accepted a renewal discounted to £407 with 12 interest free monthly payments. This worked out cheaper than Direct Line in the end as they charge interest to pay it monthly. Still an increase of £40 on last year though.
