Worried about references / rights - in job less than 6 months

I wouldnt give them a copy of the staff handbook/reference policy,it makes you look guilty.Give them the persons name to contact, end of story. If they want more details they will cotact the employer not you. No need to worry, you havent been in any trouble or anything.Chill and start looking for jobs.0

I was in the same position as you and left a job after 3 months. I am so much happier now where I am - so, don't despair - get your CV sorted out and sent off to agencies. Everyone will understand your reasons for leaving and if they don't then they are an employer to stay away from.0

Thanks guys
Though just a note about the handbook thing - to clarify.
There's some debate about whether employers understand the 'tombstone reference' or not.
It seems that some do; whereas others might think your former employer can't supply more information because they thought you were a bad employee. Several companies want details, and if they can't get them, they may think something is being hidden.
I've got plenty of experience of requesting references and every company treats it differently.
So... I think I'll compromise. Initially I'll just name the former (or current) company as a referee... and if the new company expresses concern, at that point I can show them the handbook, so they know it's policy (as opposed to something being hidden).0 -
Actually, I'd tell prospective employers up front, perhaps with a note added to where I'm giving details - "please note that xyz employers has a policy of only confirming dates of employment: if you require more than this please let me know."Signature removed for peace of mind0
