I wanna six pack!

Hey All.

Right, I am making my new years resolution early.

I want to increase my fitness, loose some weight and get that six pack that I have always wanted.

Of course being an MSE nut, I want to do this as cheaply as possible.

So, no gym membership, all the exercise will have to be done at home or outside.

So my goals:

1) Increase fitness
2) Loose weight (in order for me to attain goal 3)
3) Develop a six pack.

I hope someone on here, perhaps someone in the fitness trade can recommend a plan of some type to get me started.

I welcome diet changes and ideas too, so if you have a suggestion or tip, fire away!!

I do need some type of structure though so that I will stick to it.

If you need to know my physical attributes etc, feel free to ask :D

Cheers

Yeah, I plan to incorporate that into my schedule. But want to start off perhaps with brisk walks first. I have been out of action, fitness wise for some years and don't want to do myself an injury lol.

    Keep them coming......

Very wise. The limiting factor when you start to run is your heart/lung system. You will think that you are dying in about 45 seconds. But this passes very quickly ( a few days) as you get used to it and you begin to think that you can run for miles. Then your knees begin to hurt as they aren`t used to it. So, your idea of starting slowly is a good one. Have a look at the `I want to run` thread for example schedules for beginners.

I find that working out on your own is very hard as it can getting boring and theres no1 there to motivate you.
Try getting yourself to kickboxing/boxing lessons. you dont have to fight but it will get you fit in no time (and only £3-4 a time)

If you are going to do it yourself, 2 baked bean cans (full) make ideal weights. a medicine balls comes in handy when doing situps. press ups are great. chin up bar is a good idea as well

How would I use the two baked beans as weights?

Also, any tips on where to get a cheap chinup bar?

    Thanks! :D

i hold the tins in my hand and use them as weights when doing straight punches, upcuts, hooks etc. try doing a minute of each. They can also be used when holding out your arms (in front or to the side) and keeping them there for as long as you can.
I bought a chin up bar from argos which attaches to the door frame and can be used for sit ups as well.
chin up bar have even swung off it from my legs and it still held.

push up bars are good as well to use but not necessary if money is tight. A skipping rope is useful but needs a bit of space to use

oh and btw if you are overweight no matter how many situps you do, you wonty be able to get that 6-pack look as the stomach fat will mask it. doing adominal exercises as well as running and a balanced diet is the best way to go.

with running make sure you get a good pair of trainers..make sure they are light and comfortable. run only a couple of miles at a time to start with..giving 24hrs rest in between.
once youre happy with your level of fitness (ie not going to keel over after 10mins) and your knees arent hurting due to over exercise. try doing short sprints (2min jogging followed by 1min sprint) etc. this stops you getting into a comfortable rhythm and makes you body work harder
