Washing machine broke after two years and three months.

i have a gorenje washing machine which was purchased on 3 March 2009. It is a gorenje wag 1111 During a wash earlier today the glass on the door cracked across the middle from the bottom left to the top right and then part of the glass (quite a big section of it) fell into the machine. I had a Hotpoint before this which lasted fourteen years. Thing is we have no children. Its just me and my husband so the washing machine only gets used once or twice a week which averages out to eight or nine times a month. Its not been overloaded or abused at all. Hubby says the bearing has gone on it. Have any of you got one of these machines and has it been working ok for you.
I have got the receipt but the purchase didnt include a guarantee, only the standard twelve months. We have purchased another machine because we need one. An expense we could have done without. Is nothing built to last anymore?

I will admit to never having heard of Gorenje but I've just Googled them and their guarantee information suggests that the standard warranty is either 2 or 5 years. Did you actually contact them after your machine broke down to see if they would help?

Incidentally, I've repaired a few washing machines in my time, it's not usually difficult if you can get the parts. Don't know whether replacing the the entire door or just the glass would be easier, but either way it's probably not difficult for anyone who's a bit handy..
