Rubbish! :o(

I always get a tad excited when I get a call from a number I don't know.

I got a call today from a lady at Allure studios. Saying I'd won a make over in her studio with 4 friends...

I always get suspicious of these, and I was right to be.

When she got to the end of the call, she asked- "so how would you like to pay?"

I had to pay refundable deposit of £45 per person.

Needless to say I was mad, and hung up!

Gutted!

THIS ISN'T a win! If it was a win- I'd not have to pay a penny! :o(

Yeah, that is a well known trick. I'm surprised people still do it.

You are right to be wary - find out exactly what the charge is for and under what terms it is refundable. If you pay by credit card (and it is over £100) you are covered anyway. It's always worth a google search to look for other people's experiences.

Having said that, some of these ARE genuine - see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3233812 where it makes clear that there is a charge for late cancellation. Also if you win a hotel stay they will still take credit card details to cover 'extras'.
