There are smaller camera's like Canon's Ixus range. The problem is most have the Aperture/ Shutter Priorty and manual modes stripped out. It's these modes that give you the creative effects that it's sounds like you're looking for. The shutter priority mode lets you stream car lights etc like http://www.talkingtree.com/images/summer2005_sunset_021.jpg and can you some very creative photos.
  • I saw one feature before, that was pretty amazing.

It let you take a picture, and a sample of colour would be taken, then laid over onto a second shot, so you could change colour of things in the second picture :S lol..

Just things like that - I don't think it was a standard feature though.

The camera wasn't even a high end one, just average 3 / 4 megapixel..

Taken from the steve's digcams review of the A710IS:

"Canon enhanced the ‘My Colors’ mode found in the new PowerShot line. Where previously, users could only enable ‘My Colors’ while shooting, the current iteration permits captured images to be retouched as well, without the need for special software applications or tools. Available My Color playback modes include Vivid Blue, Vivid Green, and Vivid Red; lighter and darker skin tones, as well as options for creating black & white, sepia, neutral and positive film effects. A color accent setting turns all colors but the one selected by the user to monochrome and the color swap mode enables users to alter specific colors in an image by sampling another color from the same image or any other image on the memory card"

    Sounds like what you're after.

Steves digicams is a great site, but recommends far to many cameras.

The canon ixus are super small cameras

    Hi Matty,

glad things have eventually worked out for you. I agree about the canon range, I have the canon ixus i which I have had for over 2 years. All my friends who took my advice and went for one out of the ixus range love them. I got my friend the new Ixus i7 which piximania do, and it is smart and practical. I read an article earlier this year by a professional who said that you should stay with nikon and canon for your camera's. I have now got an EOS 400D which jessops kindly did very cheap indeed and am looking forward to using that. Hope as well you are making a claim from the royal mail. Also find out if you do not use all your voucher with piximania if you can buy vouchers for the rest of the group (Dixons,Currys and P.C world)

Hope this helps and good luck. Have a SNAPPY Christmas and hope you get some FLASH presents, and hope your New year DEVELOPES into a good one (don't know how I think of them).:rotfl:

P.S. For those people who are after a canon camera, canon have there own ebay site.

Actually was looking at this too:

    http://www.photographyblog.com/index.php/weblog/comments/panasonic_lumix_dmc_lx2/

    Lumix DMC-LX2

    WHat you think>?

    The LX2's luuuurvely :D

With regards to size the G7 is fairly chunky (all the canon G series are), as said below there is a bit less noise on the A710 (compared to LX2) but if size is an issue you may prefer the Panasonic.

I'd definitely say go into a shop and have a handle of everything, you can't tell the size at all from a picture. As you say these cameras are all a bit bigger than average, the ones i initially mentioned are the smallest i can think of with 4+ optical zoom.

You may have to compromise on one point or another. I can't (unfortunatly!) think of any 4+ optical zoom, pocket sized, manual mode enabled cameras.

Don't get obsessed with gadgety features like colour tinting! The image quality is the most important thing, you can mess with the colours in Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro/etc afterwards if you really feel the need.
  • Was looking at this camera lol - What you think? Sony are a fashionable classy brand, but not always the best technology wise...

  • Do camera prices tend to drop in the new year.

For example, do you see that Canon poweshot dropping in the New Year?
  • wouldn't imagine so no.
