Monthly amount required to live

I hope someone can answer this question.

I have recently submitted an I & E form to a DCA and have offered a monthly repayment plan of £15.

They have written back and advised that as I have £145 p/m available after all bills have been paid and allowing only £75 for a months food, they say they want £70 a month repayment on a £420 debt.

Is there a set amount I am allowed to 'live off' per month that cannot be touched by these vultchers?

£70 a month on a £420 debt seems steep in any event. What should the monthly payment be ordinarily?

if you provided full details of your I & E, one could be more specific but for example food and groceries the generally agreed allowance is about about 130-160 per month per adult.

do not believe what DCA say, come and look for support either here with full information or contact CCCS or Payplan.

if your single, national debtline suggest £60 for food and £5 clothes a week.
You shouldn't go without essentials. so £260 a month.

The debt is from my old gas/elec company, they have passed it onto the DCA. I stupidly phoned them yesterday to complain about the £70 per month, but they just said that their client were unwilling to let this drag on for more than 6 months.

I'm going to write another letter to them and I'm sure I've seen some kind of legislation set by the OFT regarding DCA's and what they can/cannot demand, i.e. cannot demand full payment, continualy demand more than you can afford, etc as this counts as harrasment. I'd like to put this in the letter, so they think I know what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Ask National Debtline to send you their booklet 'dealing with debt'

It gives acceptable ranges for food & housekeeping (£35 - 45 per week if you're single) and clothing (£3-5 per week).

You really need an Soa that shows you have £15 per month available. Then ask the DCA to reconsider your generous offer of £15

I do a lot of income/expenditure sheets so feel free to pm me if you want.
