To cut a long story short i went bankrupt last November i has some money which was in an account in my name which belonged to someone else. The person concerned has confirmed this with the OR and sent in the evidence. I also spent quite a bit on my credit cards leading up to my bankruptcy. Stupid dont tell me but i was in denial and my family and husband didnt know about my financial situation. So please dont tell me how stupid i was i know that now. My husband has stuck by me which i didnt think he would. Yes it seems a struggle becuase we were all living beyond our means and i wasnt telling my husband.I have now had aletter requesting that i attend an interview. They have said that they will be asking me about my spending on the cards and about the confirmation where the money went out the accounts. I feel sick with worry. Has anyone else experinced this what can happen.

Hi Jess, Now no worrying......easy said than done I know x
Because you used your credit cards right up to your BR the OR just wants to know what the money was used for ie living expenses etc. Go through your statements and try and put what you used the money for. When you go to the interview take a bottle of water with you and while they are writing down your answers have a sip so you don't have to feel you have to fill in the pauses. Just be honest and you'll be fine. A lot of people have had a face to face interviews and its nothing to be ashamed of.
Best wishes

A lot will depend on what your use of the credit cards was for, leading up to the BR.:pB&SC No. 298

As I understand it, the OR's job is not to tell you off or punish you. It is to understand why you went bankrupt. He will want to know what you spent the money on. For example, maybe you used your credit cards to buy gold bars which are now stored in a secret bank vault. Obviously, these will need to be sold to pay off your creditors. Maybe you knew you were going to go bankrupt and went on lavish holidays anyway, in which case a BRU/BRO might be appropriate.
From what you say, I think you have nothing too much to worry about. Just be honest. I'm sure he's heard your story a thousand times before.
And -- please -- don't keep beating yourself up about this. Life is hard enough without *you* having a go at yourself!

Hi Jess
I'm with Wolfers on this one, stop beating yourself up, you seem to be your own worst enemy, you are not a fool, you are human, just like the rest of us.

OK what is done is done and I am afraid you you can do nothing to undo it, try not to stress we had a face to face one month before AD, I was honest and just took my time when answering the questions. What lead to your BR? did you loose your job? if so explain also if you needed the money for day to day living just explain. try not to stress, I know it is easy for me to say as I am now on the other side, but what is the worst thing that can happen? you get a bru/bro that's it I had moved money all over the place in an attempt to keep our company afloat and thought oh my god I am really for it, but it was not as bad as I thought and to be honest I just kept looking at them and thinking you are just human the same as me and only doing your job. deep breaths and take somebody with you for support. Tell them you thought your situation would improve and that BR was not ever on your mind, you thought you could handle your situation. Good luckIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0

Hi Jess, haven't been on here for awhile, keeping my head down and getting on with things, but reading your post prompted me to answer. I too had a face to face OR interview, my BR was caused by my company going into liquidation and having secured debts. We as a family had been spending literally up to the point where everything went wrong, we had no idea it was going to happen. In the interview the OR's rep went through all my bank statements and my 1 lowly CC statement, it only had a max of 2500, I explained where the money had gone, I had bought the kids clothes, myself clothes, had been on holiday etc etc. It was scary, but I was treated with respect. It sounds as though you have a very supportive and understanding family around you. There is nothing I can say that will make you feel any better, but try to keep calm (although I remember I was anything but). Remember that the good people here are also really supportive and gave me so much help, now I am coming out of the other end I would like to just offer you some words of support as I got from MSErs when I was at your stage. Big hug x0

Hi Jess...
As many have already said, try not to panic and worry. You have not committed a crime and the interview is not as daunting as you are expecting.
Worse case scenario, you will be issued with a BRO (Bankruptcy Restriction Order) which basically means your BR will be extended - as oppose to the usual maximum of 12 months . A BRO may be applied in cases of reckless spending.
You need to convince the OR that things just got completely out of hand - and any excessive spending wasn't because you were planning to go BR.
I know it may be hard to face right now - but it will really help if you carefully go through all your bank and credit card statements if you have them. That way, you can plan for any questions the OR will ask.
Also, writing down how and when your debts accumulated may help you get a clear picture in your mind. This will make it easier to explain and justify things at the interview.
Hope this helps and really hope things go smoothly for you Jess.
