Will my car fail MOT - Front Passenger Door won't open

Hi

My car is due for MOT in July. The front passenger door locking mechanism is broken and is jammed shut. We have tried everything with the exception of having the inside of the door ripped off and the locking mechanism fixed which we have guessed is going to cost about 300 quid +.

Would this cause the MOT to fail? Do I have no choice but to get it fixed?

Yes its a fail and really needs fixed. Have you taken the door card off to have a look? A lot of problems are with connector rods or cables that can often be successfully bodged up.

It probably won't fail. They will simply refuse to do the test if they can't open the door.

No we haven't taken the inside off yet. There is not way of taking it off without destroying the inside panel. Going to have to try it now as we have nothing to lose. Thanks for your advice

    What car is it?
remember once the lock is smashed (wear gloves) the door will not shut so will basically be unusable till fixed

It is a testable item so will fail. 6.2.1.b http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_620.htm

Fill / weld all the gaps, will not fail then ;)

Dosn't really matter whether it's a Ferrari, it won't get tested if either of the front doors won't open.

but its a 307 so a big no no
i would advise dealer as there is a good possibility the door lock electrics will need coding to the car

The inside panels are designed to come off.. you wont destroy them.

I had the same problem with a 206 Pug. It released itself after a few days spraying with WD40.
