Haven't unpacked mine yet, but just looked and the ink cartridges are in separate package within box. I'm chancing not setting it up yet as I'm using up ink in current printer first. Hope there won't be any probs when I get round to it!“Rain drops are not the ones who bring the clouds.”0

Thanks, ours were already in the printer so if yours are both in the box I'm sure they'll be fine.:eek::eek:0

Thank you! I've just ordered one - it will be perfect for my daughter to take to university with her in September0

I have this printer. You are right, the ink costs more than the printer - about £40 to replace both cartridges - and they run out horrifyingly quickly. Also, Lexmark has sneakily set the 'reminder' warnings to start plaguing you when the cartridge is still one third full. It also seems to monitor your usage, and uses the ink up more quickly once it has that information (or is that me getting paranoid about the lengths ink manufacturers go to, to keep our money rolling in?)
Bad news though, for those buying this to use for two months etc because it's cheaper than buying the ink. Lexmark are very devious, they supply this printer with two ink cartridges which are NOT full size. They are called 'sample' cartridges and last no time at all. Then Lexmark has got you!

Well, I'll still be quids in as I've checked and the cartridges are cheaper than my current Lexmark which is many years past its sell by date and incompatible with Windows 7, meaning I currently have to keep reinstalling Vista drivers which just about get it running ok for a couple of months at a time. So, overall it's got to be an improvement for me. There seem to be genuine cartridges on Amazon with good reviews for about £14 each.“Rain drops are not the ones who bring the clouds.”0 -
Maybe you got one somebody had already opened, started up, then returned?
New printers NEVER come with ink cartridges ready to go.
Presume it must be something like that, will return it. So annoying after having had to go to the parcel depot and queue for ages to collect it.:eek::eek:0
