have you seen the gravel garden that was featured on the chelsea flower show. it might have some ideas for you. depending on your location you could grow mediterian herbs, agaves, succulents. One thing I would say is be careful about the size of gravel you use especially if there are cats. bigger is better in the case of preventing the cats from digging. best of luck.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I like the big central bed idea best. I'd also have lavenders coing through the grave randomly.....looks amazing. Your front garden already looks nice, the lavender and rosemary(??) seem to like it there.

    Have fun!
  • What a joy, JJ, to see the progress of your garden. I 'specially luuuurve the lavenders, I lost mine to last winter's frost and snow and didn't realise until now how much I miss them. Keep up the good work, I shall look forward to seeing the next stagg.
  • wow looks fantastic, good job :) look forward to seeing pics of it all planted up

What a great thread, I too have been thinking of putting gravel on my front garden as we are in an area overrun with rabbits and they are constantly digging holes in my grass, they don't stick to one hole, they make several, but am worried am jumping from frying pan into the fire as also have cat next door and dont want want it using my front garden as a loo!! My garden is a much bigger expanse of grass so it is a big decision, yours looks lovely though!! well done

very very inspirational. looks much nicer than the lawn too.
  • Very nice to see your progress and so great to see it's not just being paved over - I have an extensively planted front garden where I got rid of a lawn and it's a joy and loved by wildlife
    Thanks for posting
