ok understood. apologies for sounding "arsey", i was just reacting to what seem like some fairly condescending remarks, in tone at least. i do totally appreciate that i am responsible for my circumstances and never thought that I could make this black mark just magically disappear. I was just hoping that there were some things that I could actively do to improve my credit rating.
As it turns out, there is. Having spoken to a professional, they told me that if you have another form of borrowing/credit then you can use that to show that you are capable of repaying debt. In my case, I have another credit card I never use - i was advised that if I start to use it regularly and make sure I stick to repayments, that should see my credit rating improve much quicker. sounds obvious when you say it out load. This is sound advice that helps me but if you don't already have a credit card in place then it probably won't help you as obviously you'll find it very hard to get approval with a bad credit history. the dreaded viscious circle.
once again. apologies for my last comment and thank you all for replying all the same.0 -
It's not going to trump a black mark on your credit file though unfortunately.Having spoken to a professional, they told me that if you have another form of borrowing/credit then you can use that to show that you are capable of repaying debt. In my case, I have another credit card I never use - i was advised that if I start to use it regularly and make sure I stick to repayments, that should see my credit rating improve much quicker.
That black mark is only an issue though if you intend to apply for more credit in the next 6 years. As you say in your original post:
So why not make sure you stay clear of debt now and enjoy it??I am now clear of debt.....
That would be problem solved. Keep your existing credit card for emergencies only.0 -
won't undo the damage or help hugely but may help a bit

This "professional" wouldn't be one of the laughable, "credit repair companies" would it?
If it is, they can do NOTHING and I mean NOTHING except charge you through the nose for stuff you can do yourself.......be warned"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0
