There is no married couple's pension any longer unless you were born before 1935 which you weren't.

Your wife does have the option of either continuing with the £111 a month (did you mean a week?), or claiming a pension of 60% of the amount of state pension you will be getting.

Just me being pedantic, but there is no 'married couple's pension' even for those born before 1935.

What there is, if one of the couple was born before 6th April 1935, is married people's tax allowance. It is possible for the couple to split this allowance between them, to set against their individual pensions income. So, they still get their own pension, separately.

I wonder when this idea that there is a 'married couple's pension' will eventually die away? It has been outdated for a long time now.

It willl not die away until industry bodies stop referring to it.

I agree with everyone else, everyone gets their own personal pension these days.

I think the 'term' will only die out when us oldies die off:D
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thanks for this. I have emailed these people pointing out their error. They are misleading people.

As I said before, she will be able to claim a pension amounting to 60% of the value of yours.

This will give her about £80 a week instead of the £25.60 she gets now.

As to any other benefits, check out your entitlement on https://www.entitledto.com .

ETA There is no such thing as a couple's allowance available to you.

Hopefully she is your wife, what has been said does not apply to partners.
