I thought that as so many of us are doing our own makeup we could have a thread recommending products that work for different skin types. I know I'm still hunting for a good mascara and concealer.

I have combination skin, and I'm very, very pale, almost blue. These are excellent for me.

MAC prep and primer and Estee lauder doublewear foundation . Using these my skin looks amazing and it doesn't slide off through the day.

Benetint. - lovely for the cheeks, not sold on the lips cause its a bit patchy, but lasts ages so a good base for gloss or other lipstick I suppose. Its not drying either.

MAC do a cracking concealer, can't think whether its the Studio Sculpt or Studio Finish as they are both in a pot rather than tube.

As for Mascara, i've tried the MAC ones but prefer Maybelline. Much nicer IMO

Codemonkey- I am rubbish with makeup so have nor ecommendations to add Just wanted to say there are 3 different benefit freebies to collect with Glamour magazine this month. One of them is Benetint- it is a 4ml mini and the mag is £2. That size is £10 on the benefit website so seems a good deal. The other freebies are posietint (whichi s a paler version of benetint) and highbeam (complexion enhancer!). HTH.

Max Factor do great reasonably-priced matte pressed powder

I adore Barry M's Dazzledusts (powder eyeshadows), they come in fantastic bold bright colours, but of course, they do all the normal neutral skin tones, highlights and smokey looks. They take a bit of practice, but when you're used to them, they just fantastic to use - and they last for aaaaages!
Similarly, Barry M's nail polishes are pretty good, particularly for the price!

I would recommend investing in good primers and fixers (particularly fixers! google "Make-up Fixer Mist & Fix) if you want your makeup to stay in place and look good all day.



Most importantly - get your makeup early and practice practice practice with it! Don't buy a new brand and never use it til the big day, because you might find out that it needs different blending techniques, or it works better with a different brush, or it just comes out looking different because you're not used to working with it. You don't want that stress on your big day!

I couldnt agree more- and dont forget to have your photo taken so you can see if you are really as well made up as the mrror suggests- sometimes its easy to feel overly made up but end up looking washed out in pics!

Fantastic thread! I had my MAC makover a couple of weeks ago and now I'm a complete addict -- I have to put some of it on every day even if just for work! She made me up a concealor from two products (Select Moisture Cover and Studio Finish concealor) and it's bloody amazing. I have terrible dark circles and have been advised not to use YSL Touche Eclat (which is what I normally use) because of the reflection on photos and this MAC concealor is fantastic.

I'd also recommend Laura Mercier eye base in wheat as that gives an excellent base for eye shadow and eyeliner.

I am on the hunt for a good mascara. I've recently tried the new No7 and the latest Max Factor (the big fat purple one) but after reading the above, I may try a Maybelline one.

I've just got Estee lauder doublewear foundation to try for next year & so far so good. I really love it & it does last a long time.

I've used YSL mascarra which I found less clumpy than other (but maybe I wasn't doing it right) and benefits boiing is great for covering my spots

hmm maybelline mascara just does not work for me. I've got long eyelashes and it just ends up flaked under my eyes. I should probably get waterproof anyway. I have a feeling I'm going to blub.

Waiting for some laura mercier concealer to arrive after a recommendation on another thread.
