Deeds of the house

We have been told by the Halifax that we have a choice of keeping the deeds ourselves and paying £50 or they will scan them into the national database and we dont nee a copy. Is it better to keep them ourselves and if so where is the best place to keep them.

Personal opinion - I would have them scanned to the ND as that will ensure that there is no chance of them going astray, being destroyed etc ... and its a secure permanent record.
Sure others will give their opinion too.
