I noticed that Costco have one of these blu-ray things if anyone is interested in getting one. Cant remember model or price, just spotted it out of the corner of my eye and was quite surprised as I thought they were still on the drawing board...

i am going to save my pennies and get the ps3 about 3-6 months after its released here! has had fantastic reviews as a blu ray player!

    read this:

  • I read about this on this page DVD Player Guide which suggests that it is availble for £999 at John Lewis in UK but only $599 at Amazon.com.

Hard to believe such discrepancies betwee both RicherSounds and Joun Lewis and interesting to see the much lower price in USA.
  • I think it will be a while before stand alone Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players are better than the PS3 but they will be eventually. But for the next 18 months I see the PS3 becoming king and pushing the Wii and Xbox 360 to the side. The success of the PS3 will also mean that Blu-Ray get's the adge that it needs to win the format battle.

I've been arguing with people on other forums for months but the PS3 will firmly put Sony back to the top of the pile simply because of Blu-Ray and the extra features that it's crammed into the box.
  • I have been supporting PS3 from the off. HOWEVER, I refuse to pay £550 for a console with 3 games when I can buy the 360 with 2 pads, 2 games for £220!! Plus if you do splash out for a PS3 now and bluray flops and HD-DVD wins then your stuck with an expensive games console and no HD-DVD player. I'll stick with the 360 till the format war is over, then if the blu-ray wins (which it prob will) I'll get rid of the 360 and get a PS3 (once they come down to a reasonable price).
  • I'm afraid the PS3 won't be coming down in price for quite a while. They are selling the system for a huge loss. They're losing something like $300 on every PS3 that they sell. So all cost savings for the next 24 months are likley to offset their current losses.

But if you already have a 360 then I'd wait anyway. Those without should save, save, save because the PS3 will easily be the game consoles winner and will most likely help Sony win with Blu Ray. The PS3 will also once again win the games developers over and we'll see most of the best games shown in the their potential on the PS3.
  • PS3 will serve all my blue ray needs when it comes out in march - nearly £200 cheaper than the samsung player as well heh.
