Any Golf apps cover N.Ireland

Have a mate with a birthday coming up and was thinking about getting him a golf app for his new mobile.

This is something I know little about but hear him talking about it a fair bit.

I've had a google around - Golfshot and Skydroid list quite a few courses in N.I but am unsure how well they actually work, does anyone on here have first hand experience with these sort of apps?

He's currently about to get a new phone and it will be something like the Galaxy S2/Desire HD or Iphone in case that makes a difference.

Any advice would be appreciated. :)

FIL has a handheld device that covers NI golf courses with an overview of the courses and yardage etc. I'll see what the name of it is and come back to you if that's any help?

The one the FIL has is called "Golf Buddy World Platinum" as shown here: http://www.golfbuddyglobal.com/products/products04.asp Actually quite expensive but he won it as a prize I think. covers all courses worldwide so it does.

Thanks for that RTNI, yeah thats the sort of thing he's after but the standalone gadgets are quite expensive.

The apps I've been looking at online range from £1 to £13 and seem to work well with a decent mobile but £13 is great only if it works over here, lol :)

I use golfshot on a regular basis and couldn't praise it more. It's covered any course I've played in Ireland and if a course isn't covered then there's a facility within the app to take a photo of the course's score card and send it to the people who make the app - they'll add the course for you.

It then calculates your handicap, your score for each round (in terms of shots and points if you want), your stats (GIR, driving accuracy, number of putts, etc...) and emails all the info to you at the end of your round. You can also keep scores for up to 3 other golfers and the email will be sent to them as well. It won't calculate their handicap however.

I've got an iPhone 3GS. Think the app's about £18 on the iPhone but I've jailbroke mine so just downloaded it
