id agree in questioning your 'good prospects', what are these? your age? thats all i can see.
did you just get this decent job? are your loan payments higher than your take home pay?
if i am earning £1000 after tax, and all debts plus rent and living for the month comes to under £1000, say £950, id just pay it all off that way over years rather than debt consolidation. lets not forget you pay even more when you consolidate. plus, if you get 'promoted' you will get more cash, allowing more savings/ earlier repayment.

If you are genuine then good luck, good life lesson learned.
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000
