i received a letter today hand delivered by equita saying BAILIFF removal and a phone number.. i called the mobile number and i was told i had to pay £330 now i have been paying equita monthly for an outstanding council tax debt and i thought i had paid it all off.. i called equita and they said i missed my last payment i asked why did they not contact me and let me know it was only £60 they said they did. but they didnt and hung up. i have spoken again to the baliff and asked him for a run down of the debt and costs in writing and he said he can post me a copy but first i have to pay which i refused. he then said he can meet me in the morning with a copy.
how do i know exactly what they are allowed to charge on top of the debt???? i have read some threads on here and it looks like some people have paid to much and i dont want to do that
thankyou

            Hi
You need to be very very careful with equita; they routinely charge illegal fees on top of the legitimate debt.
Do not let the bailiff in your house, if you have not done so previously.
Do you have a car?
E-mail coming up.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

do not speak to Equita on the phone unless you can record the call to say they they have a selective memory is an understatement
be aware that your council may not administrate there council tax as most local authority's outsource this work one of these company's is Capita who own Equita therefore to be on the safe side all letters to the council should be sent as a formal complaint and addressed to the head of revenues and a copy sent to the chief executive
send them this to info@equita.co.uk

Why are you calling the court?
Ring the revenue section at the COuncil and ask them the value of the liability order.
Send the e-mail above to equita urgently and tell the bailiff you are doing this if you speak to him again. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Any levy done?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

i only called the court to find out if he was working for them but he is not and now called debt line who said that the £229 charges are illegal and the council should take som rsponsibilty for it as they are working on behalf of them but the council dont want to know0

            Hi
have you sent the e-mail I posted above?
We get people on here being charged masses of extra fees and when equita get that e-mail, they return the fees.
With respect to the Council, you need to find out when your local councillor next has a surgery and go and visit them, this weekend if possible. They may be able to take the debt back from the bailiffs if the councillor intervenes for you.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
-
yes i sent the letter to them thankyou. i just now recieved a text from the bailff saying he will return tomorrow0
-
drop in surgery is not till last friday of the month0
