Hi All
I know its 2 years and 2 months away but I thought I start this thread for ideas that people have for booking a wedding abroad. I have been told that I cant book anything until next april because the wedding brochure wont be out until then.
Up to now we have thought about going to greece because it will be cheeper for our families to join us, then were going to have a evening party when we come home. The only thing I have booked in for is my wedding dress measuring with a woman who makes them to fit, as i am only 5 foot tall and a size 8, i picked the style that i like and the design on it i get to pick at the measuring. she is going to charge my dad £1000, which i think is really good as she making from hand and to fit me.
It would be lovely to hear about some peoples storys and how they saved money when booking weddings abroad.
xx

We looked at getting married in Spain, but as we both aren't catholic it seemed a little difficult.
I really like Gibraltar. Very cheap flights for family from Liverpool with Easyjet and it's only a 2.5hour flight. Plus it could only be for 2-3 nights so not asking people to have a holiday to come to the wedding.
I'm very keen. Just have to convince OH..............:)Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Hello,
We are getting married in Lindos in Rhodes next September, as we love it there. We have been there many times & it holds special meanings to us as it was the first place we went away together. As you say it is also not too expensive for friends & family to join us & hopefully plenty of them will!
We are getting married at St Paul's Chapel & have booked our wedding through a wedding planner rather than through the tour operator. The planner we have is wonderful & she has been great so far, she booked the chapel & confirmed our wedding date back in Feb when we first got in touch with her. I beleive that it's probably cheaper to book it through a tour operator, but we did not feel comfortable with doing that, we wanted someone who was in the business & was very good at it & knew what they were doing & had seen a few bad reviews when people had used a tour operator, but each to their own & some people have been happy with the services from the Tour operator. We booked the holiday to go with the wedding the other week when Direct Hols released the bookings for next year.
When marrying abroad I feel it's not as formal as here, so after the wedding we are having drinks by the sea & then on to a travern for a meal. We haven't decide which one yet but a lot of them offer very good menu at a great price. As we are not getting married until 4.15pm it will be about 7pm when we get to the tavern so will just spend the night in there, we are not planning on having a dj or disco or anything as I think people will be just happy to sit & drink & chat once the meal is over & we have done a few speaches - well if there not they can go home:rotfl:
We are not planning on having a party when we get back as it's not what we want & due to my family & a lot of friends been a 100miles away from me we would struggle to know where to hold it location wise to get mine & OH lot together. Neither of us like bufett do's with disco etc so if people who can't come want to go out with us then we will just have the odd meal out with them etc.
We meet up with our planner in the winter this year to make all the arrangements so we can't really do much until then which is very fustrating as I want to do stuff:DMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

Hi Fawny.
I have just googled St Pauls Chapel and it looks lovely. I did look in to hiring a wedding planner instead of going though a tour operator, but i wasnt such that they would be as helpfull as you have maybe them sound. Could you please tell who you decide to be your planner so i can have a look. Do she/he keep in contact with you on a regular bases
I do like the sound of getting married late on in the afternoon, that is something I will be asking for. The reason were having a party when we come home is because I got older family that wont be able to fly, so it will be the only way for them clebrate it with us
Thank you for your reply. x0 -
Hi Smurfett,
We have booked with Karen of Lindos Weddings http://www.lindosweddings.co.uk/
There are a lot of very positive reviews on the net about them, not seen a bad one to be honest. Have a look at their website it's got lots of info on it, I emailed them to ask a question & she sent me so much info it was great. Like I say we never looked at what a tour operator could offer as we knew it was not the route we wanted to take, but they might be ok. As yet we have not had much contact with them, we had an initil flurry of emails as we booked the date & made some enqiries about certain aspects, but since then we have not needed to ask anything, if we did I have no doubt that they would have been helpful. As I think I said they come over to the uk in the winter to meet with us & thats when the real plannning really starts. They will go through all the legal stuff with us & help us sort that, show us photos & dvd ect of previous wedding & advise us of things we can do on the day. They will book it all for you, the reception & everything. Once out in Lindos for the wedding they meet with you again to run through everything & they are there with you on the day blending in of course to make sure things go well. Anyway They tell you all this on their website. We know & love the area so have a good idea of what we want & will be there again this September for the 6th time.
I'm sure there is someone else on here who is marrying there this Sept & has used them but not seen her for a while. There is also a girl who is there at the moment getting married who used a tour operator & i'm sure will be back with photos.
If you search back through the posts you will probably find quiet a few regarding this, as there has been a few people asking over the last month.
Cheers
