Make up question

I went for a trial yesterday and came away to think about what she had done. In hindsight I guess having to think about it means it was wrong but some of the girlies and OH saw it and thought it wasn't me so that confirms it. I took a photo and it didn't look as bad and some of the girls said that after a while seeing it they got used to it but I think maybe I should get a good reaction as soon as everyone sees me. I know I need the make up for the photos but I guess not at the expense of looking like a freak for the day. The girl said I could go back for another trial as I think she knew I would end up not being happy so...how did you choose your make up style? Did you have the same amount on that you would wear normally or did you just have more to over emphasise? When I do my make up you can't really tell it is there, I just use it to bring out my eyes which I guess she did but in a more dramatic way. I am rambling but just want to get an idea of what people are having/have had done. A month to go and this is the only thing not sorted really so I would like to work on it to give me peace of mind!

I did my own make-up (not much choice for me really as we got married abroad!) but I just did my make-up as I'd normally wear it, then added another swish of blusher and eye shadow so they'd be more noticable in the photos. I'd had Hollywood Lashes done too so my eyes looked more dramatic anyway. I'm not a fan of the overly made-up look, you want to look like you on the day!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Thanks, I think I am going to take a picture of how I normally look with make up on so she has a better idea. I probably should have done that to start with. I am not a big make up person so have found it difficult anyway.

I worry about this too - I don't wear any make up normally, even on special occasions and nights out. Somehow I am a bit worried that I should wear some on my wedding day. Not sure why! We're not even having a photographer so it's not like the photos are a big focus for me.

I'll follow this thread to see what others suggest for you. One thing I'm considering is asking a very good friend, or maybe my Mum, to do it for me - at least they know me and what suits me, even if the technique wouldn't be quite as flawless..

Something that I see people say again and again really rings true.
"On you wedding day you should look like you but on a good day."

You don't need to go super orange with the bronzer, just wear make up that complements you natural look.
Although make-overs are good because the artists know the right products to apply & have good technique, they don't always know what YOU like.
  • I did my own make up and followed a "step above" kind of an approach. I only really ever wear a bit of concealer on my eye bags and a bit of mascara so for my wedding day, I just wore a bit of tinted moisturiser, light blusher, brown eyeshadow and then my normal mascara. Stuck a bit of tinted lipbalm on too before the ceremony. I felt fab and didn't look much more made up than normal, just a bit more polished!

    Perhaps your h2b a
nd friends just arent used to seeing you in makeup? My mum doesn't wear makeup often and when she does I generally think she looks like a drag queen just because I'm not used to seeing it. I'm not for one second suggesting you look like a drag queen btw. But I've found with my mum a softer look is better. The current makeup trends aren't very soft around the eyes, so maybe you need to use less.

I am going to show her a photo of me with make up on and go from there. H2B loves me with make on so it was his reaction that shocked me the most. The application yesterday was great as I didn't really feel as if I had any make up on. I normally wear minimal make up, eye shadow, eye liner and a bit of blusher, a clear lip gloss if anything on my lips. I don't wear foundation as I am lucky enough to have nice skin so anything the salons do will be more than I am used to. I have thought about it non stop since yesterday and feel more confident about what I want now. I have given the salon some dates and times that I am available and they are going to sort something out, OH is hopefully going to come along with me. I now it is traditionally a girly thing but it is his opinion that I trust the most so it makes sense for him to come along.

    Thanks for your responses.

I have another trial booked for next Friday. It will be a shorter one as she really only needs to concentrate on my eyes and it is late enough that OH can come along too.

Decided today to cancel the other trial and make up for the day and do it myself. OH and I were going to go around the department stores tomorrow getting help. However...sent a picture of the other day's trial to my sister and she was horrified, she is doing it for me :D annoying as she was the one persuaded me to use the professionals. Going to try and get to see her in a couple of weeks for a play about with her stuff.

Thanks for reading my rants, I am feeling far more relaxed now.
