Broadband Providers..

I have recently moved and due to BT being so useless, I have cancelled my contract with them.
Shouldnt be a problem.. But. As a discharged bankrupt I am failing credit checks. Virgin Media.. No chance, I offered to pay 12 months upfront, still no joy. Talktalk is looking better, my wife signed up instead of me, she isnt bankrupt.. Yet.
Just got a letter from Talktalk saying that there is a credit check pending, if she passes then we will be OK if not they wont be able to offer us broadband or phone.
My credit file will be linked to hers so in all likliehood she will fail that credit check.
Is there an internet provider that will supply broadband and phone to a discharged bankrupt? If the answer is no, what is the work around?
We live rural, there is no mobile phone coverage from any operator so expensive data dongles aren't the answer. Currently we have no home phone, no broadband and no mobile coverage.. Not good especially as we have a baby with downs syndrome at home. Even had we stuck with BT, the earliest they said they could get us connected would have been the 21st June.
I will call them back today and see if I can rejoin without the need for the credit checks.. If not though.. Any ideas??

PlusNet do a good home phone and broadband deal and they don't sign you up to a long contract either, it's run on a month by month basis. So you might have better luck if you ring them up and ask the question. I guess they'll still run a credit check but are more likely to offer you services if they see you regularly pay your mobile bill for example. Gotta be worth a try.
I've been with tme over 6 years now and very rarely have any downtime. They have a superb member centre and also a page showing any problems and how long they expect until resolution.
Let's hope TalkTalk come through first though, saves more hassle. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I know this might be of no use but I use a prepay mobile broadband service, speeds of 2-3meg
£15 for 3GB of data valid for 30 days, £20 for the modem0 -
I suppose you could say upfront that you are br and offer to make a 'down-payment'. I had to do that once when my credit check failed, I paid £50 and it was held for 6 months and once I showed trustworthy it was credited back. HTH2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)
BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.000 -
Hi worcsman,
if you need a new line to be fitted and were to fail the credit check the downside would simply be that you would be asked for the £79.99 for the new line fee in advance. This would be held for 6 months after which it would be refunded to your account.
Did you apply online or by telephone?

I am bankrupt and have been a Talk Talk customer for well over a year, maybe two. Recently I asked for my home telephone number to be changed, so they put me through to new business, the lady on the phone explained that they would do a credit check, so I informed her of my bankruptcy, she said that if I failed I would probably be asked to make a deposit payment. However, I didn't need to. AMAZINGLY I PASSED! Still don't know how it happened, or whether I was an existing customer had anything to do with it, but I would suggest giving it a go! Good Luck0

Hi thanks for that I didnt know that was the process.. would have gladly paid but in the absense of access to the net, couldn't see your reply so phoned BT back rather than wait for what I expected was a no thanks from talktalk (which is what happened with Virgin), BT took me back without any questions so now im signed up for bt option 3, anytime call plan plus bt vision. so my super cheap talktalk has ended up at £53 all-in deal with bt. Oh well.. i suppose the positive thing is that as we have no digital tv signal, at least now i got telly without having to pay for a freeview sat.Bankruptcy and Supporters club... Member 340.

I've just been looking into getting a new ISP and have been knocked back by a couple already Apparently Sky are the only co who don't credit check you. Virgin would have signed me up if I'd had my discharge papers apparently but I'm undischarged at the mo. Not made mind up about sky as don't really want to spend £30+ a month0

From the above it sounds like TalkTalk and BT are both willing to help. It could still be worth contacting PlusNet too as they don't sign you up to a yearly contract but run month by month. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
