How does this sound....evening only wedding!

Me & my oh were supposed to be getting married in a few months time but he lost his job and we realised we couldnt afford the wedding so we put it back a year to October 2012. Now my OH has got a good job but he has decided he doesnt want the whole 'big' wedding, breakfast, speeches, etc etc and he wanted to go abroad but we have come to a compramise of having a wedding later in the day.

We would like a 4 or 5pm wedding in our local church, we would like the earlier but we cant get into the venue till 6pm and it is 20mins away from the church....dont want the guests to have nowhere to go.
Arrive at the venue, welcome drinks, cake cutting & quick thank you's.
Our evening guests (70) will arrive around 7, with a disco untill midnight.

The venue is a modern country pub but unfortunately doesnt have a garden for photo's just a decked area, they will close to the public so the venue is private to us for the evening, they will do a hog roast / bbq / bowl food (mini fish & chips etc) or seafood paella, or a combination of 2 of these for us throughtout the night, so there isnt a set time for the food and the guests can get what they want when they want it, obviosuly cooked as & when. They are asking for a minimum of 120 guest, but if we have more they will not charge us any extra.
Thay are asking for £2500, this is to shut for a saturday evening in summer 2012, all the food for a minimum of 120 guests & all 5 guest bedrooms.

Does this sound reasonable?

We are after a laid back, informal affair so think the ceremony straight into the evening celebrations would suit us.

Sounds lovely! We were married at 5.30, it worked for us. You will really have time to enjoy a leisurely day getting ready, and MSE too! I would suggest ensuring that there is some food available for the all day guests when they arrive at the venue at 6, even just nuts and crisps - just to soak up the drink!
    have a great wedding!

I think that sounds like a lovely wedding, nice and chilled. The price sounds good to me, that's like £21 per person including the venue and the guest rooms.

7 til 12 is what most people do when they go out so it is a decent amount of time.

If you want the outdoor garden photos type thing you could perhaps bring a few bay trees or something to put on the deck for your photos? Just a thought...

That's a really good idea and your day/ evening sound lovely and relaxed.

I don't think 4pm will be too early. By the time the ceremony is finished it will be half four-ish, then an hour for photos, mingling with guests and chill time before a leisurely trip to the evening venue at half five.

If you leave it till 5pm you may feel rushed and you wouldn't want to feel stressed about meeting your other guests for 7pm. Enjoy your day!

Are you having 'day' guests and 'evening' guests? If there's no big formal part (meal!) I'd just invite everyone to the church (if it can hold them) so they can share the love! :)

Otherwise I think it's a great idea, weddings can be really long days so it'll be a lovely change to the norm! The price sounds fair too. :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

This is exactly what we're doing...wedding at 3PM, then a nice long evening do (4PM-4AM) where we'll just have one meal (albeit a very long one ;))....Saves all the politics of day guests vs evening guests, makes everyone feel included and should make for a really nice informal celebration of our love. Is the plan. :)

we are doing the same - wedding at 3 pm, drinks for an hour after at wedding venue then on to reception until 12 pm. All very relaxed. I am disappointed as I really wanted everyone at everything, but without a hotel wedding (which I didn't want) there was not a ceremony venue big enough for all my guests, unfortunately some are going to have to come to the 'evening do' only - however I am only planning on feeding everyone once so everyone will be eating the same buffet! No sit down meal for us :)

I think your price sounds really reasonable for that many guests - and I'm v jealous of the hog roast (my other halfs a veggie so there'll be no roasting pigs at our wedding!) :rotfl:
:) Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often! :p

My venue (ss Great Britain) only offers weddings after 4.30 pm, because the ship is open to the public before then.

    Re timings, we're thinking:

    Ceremony 4.45 - 5.15 ish.
Drinks on deck and photos: 5.15 to 6.15
    Down for dinner
Meal: 6.30 to 8.00 ish (incl speeches and cake cutting)
Evening guests arrive from 8 and bar until midnight.

It's better for me having it all in the "evening", because I've got ME and a "full day" (eg 12 til 12) would probably leave me too knackered to do anything for the next month!
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all
