Halifax threatening to send someone out

Getting a bit stressed here about the Halifax, everyone else has accepted our payment plan & we are keeping up regular payments to Halifax even though they havent accepted.

They phone at least 6 times a day & last week we had a letter (not a letter really, just a compliments slip) saying they are sending a representative to visit us, no time or appointment, just said on the 15th which is tomorrow:eek:

We wrote back saying we arent available that day & that in future could they ensure all correspondence is done via post etc, but they are still calling all day & I have a feeling someone will just turn up tomorrow, which is making me very anxious.

Do you think this is just a scare tactic to make us pay up, or do you think someone will actually come? Do we have to let them in, or can I just refuse them entry & tell them to contact us via post?

Has this happened to anyone else?

IF a representative from the Halifax DOES turn up tomorrow, specifically since you have requested that they do not, this is, indeed, harrassment.
Just remember that he/she has NO legal right of entry.
You are 'dealing with your debts' you have made an offer to Halifax and the fact that your other creditors have accepted your offers would indicate that Halifax is trying to gain 'preferential status'.
Who is managing your DMP? If it is PAYPLAN or CCCS, you should report Halifax to them.

  • is it possible to change your telephone number, i know with bt they can do it for free, we had ours changed a couple of months ago
  • I had this problem with Halifax a few months back, just before my DMP started up. I have a credit card and loan with them, they were made well aware a long time ago about the DMP too.

Still, I received a compliment slip from them, on (say 13th August?) saying that they will come round on the 15th(?). So I called them, told them AGAIN that I was with Payplan in a DMP, that they would get nothing because I'm at work all day, and that if they dared come round in the evening then their teeth will end up on my lawn.

So I got an apology and that was that!

Ha, I never had a problem with the Halifax, but they are by far the worst of my creditors (I have three). They'll call from 8am-9pm, send letters etc. I've been with them since I was around 5 years old (I'm 22 now), I also have a mortgage with them, and last year I had a few problems and racked up quite a debt which I'm dealing with. Them calling me three times a day isn't going to change my situation! I think they try to break people, wear them down. But you need to stand up to them, and remember that they cannot take what you don't have! :D

  • Thank you so much for all of your replies, hopefully they will not turn up, but I think I will type up a letter just in case saying about harrassment, had better do my homework tonight & see if I can find some details online to copy.

I feel a little easier now knowing that they have no right to entry, we've sent them our SOA & all other creditors agreed months ago, maybe they thought we would ring them & pay up through fear of them turning up on our doorstep

I think I will look at changing our phone number too, we are with NTL though, not sure how much it will cost
  • Halifax are one of the worst, I'm much happier dealing with the DCA they passed us to. All their hassle, refusing to stop interest and such led to us demanding to be moved to the DCA. It took three month of not paying to get them to listen.
I never had them threaten to come to the house (100's maybe 1,000's of phonecalls), if they had tried their would have been hell on. One thing they did do which is sick was phone the hospital to check if DH was there. Talk about harassment.

  • My God, I get so angry when I read these threads. How dare banks or anyone harrass you like that? I'm fortunate not to ever have experienced this particular problem, although I did suffer harassment from an ex landlord because I wouldn't let him enter the house whenever he wanted to.

I really want to call these companies up for you guys and go mad down the phone. If is wasn't such a crazy idea I'd gladly tell you all to divert your calls to my mobile so I could give them all a good piece of my mind. That'd kill two [STRIKE]harrassers[/STRIKE] birds with one stone as it'd be cathartic for me too.

Just hang in there guys; or just pick up the phone and scream down it.
