You say there was no gift list with the invitation....this is quite common now...a lot of couples dont send a list as they feel that its a little presumptious...
If I were you I would definately ask what they would like...the chances are they have a few ideas whether that be money/gift voucher based or actual gifts...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Thanks, really don't want to give money or vouchers, we don't have lots of cash at the moment and I was hoping I could get them something in a sale that looks more than we actually paid:o
Will keep looking, may ring for gift list, BUT, what if everything is out of our budget:(grocery challenge Sept 2012 £21/£3990 -
I am obviously the exception here but I think that a Circle of Life ornament would be a lovley gift. Glad to see that some people are not sending out gift lists as I agree they are presumptiousLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

They're always prefaced with "we don't want gifts, just your company, blah blah blah", so I don't think "presumptuous" is the right word...But OPs life would be much easier if they'd provided one...Did you mean to say "helpful"
I feel your pain, though, Outdoorlass, I've been to a few weddings where the gift lists have been crazy - where the only things I could afford have been 1 plate from a set of 12, or a pepper mill, or a set of coasters...and you just think "really!?". But there are normally things that can be done...write some DooYoo reviews and spend an amazon voucher, find one of the items in sale somewhere...For one wedding, I think I actually just bought them the pepper pot, or whatever...It didn't seem like much of a gift, but I took the attitude of "well, that's what you get for having ridiculously expensive stuff on your gift list.." (and secretly crossed my fingers that they'd have to go and spend the cash on the matching salt grinder

You don't need to put anything about wanting or not wating gifts in the invitation though.
I certainly did mean presumptious and definitely not helpful!
If everything is very expensive on the list I would have no problem getting something such as a lovely ornament.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

have you been to the newly weds home, would it fit in with their decor etc, if not i would go with a gift card or if you know where they are going on honeymoon a bottle of champenge in their room of arrival, would be a lasting memory. a friend of mine give us 3 bottles of champers, each with a personalized message, 1, for our return from honeymoon, when watching ou video/reliving our day, 2 for our first year anniversary, 3 for our first born, such a unique idea. xMaking small changes, hoping they will last....0

We've just got married and didn't have a gift list. Older relatives asked our parents what we wanted and younger people just asked us, as they wouldn't take no for an answer we asked for money or Argos vouchers.
We got a couple of lovely mug sets, and a couple of other small gifts including some expensive toiletries we wouldn't treat ourselves to. Luckily no wine glasses or photo frames/albums, as we would never use them!
Oh, and I think the Circle Of Love figurines are nice, but I don't think I'd really have a place to put one.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
