I mixed a handful of aloe vera gel with a few drops of lavender oil when I had sunburn, which helped a bit. I have also mixed a few drops of lavender oil with water in a spray bottle and sprayed myself while standing in front of a fan to help cool the skin down.

It's horrible but it does get better pretty quick. Lesson learnt!

a tip given to friends in Greece was to put on live natural yoghurt and leave it dry before applying another layer as apparently it takes the heat out

Could it be prickly heat? Is the itchy really intense?
  • Ouch! A good quality aloe vera gel is the best thing for burns - should give you instant relief from the itching.

Also, take an antihistamine tablet. It is the histamine in your system causing the itch.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the Elizabeth Arden skin protectant cream that was on the special Argos offer.

Never tried it before, but it's a miracle cream! Last Sat I stupidly fell asleep in the sun, and woke up bright red. I thought I'd give the protectant cream a try. I put some on my chest, but none on my arms (which were also red).

A couple of hours later, my arms were still red, hot and itchy. But my chest where I had put the cream was far less red, and not at all itchy any more. Next day I was nice and brown, no red or peeling!

this totally works - did it myself in Greece one summer, put a layer on, left it to dry, then cool showered it off.
