Apparently that's very common: someone says they're going, they're offered a new deal, so they stay, but not for long.

OP, sounds like the work / life balance issue needs to be addressed by the company, and I'd definitely say that!

Pay cant be that bad, if, like you say...you have plenty of savings..

Ask for a 1to1 tell the Md that you have reached the top of the ladder here and you have an opportunity to start a new Job on a platform straight from this where you will have opportunities to develop what you can offer to an employer and rise above where the ceiling is now, that you have become frustrated at the lack of opportunity to offer the company more of your skills.
But if the MD would like to raise the ceiling from above your head and open up and harness your willingness to develop then you are all ears.
What have you got to loose.

Yup, work life balance thing....happy now..new job, half the distance, same pay, same function etc.
