B&Q returns - working the system...?

I recently spent £100 on an item at B&Q - no discount because I needed the tool urgently.
I now find that there is a 15% off voucher becoming available in the next few days.
I'm considering buying the very same item again, using the 15% discount voucher, and then returning the original item for a refund.
The problem - I have used the original item, so can't actually return the 'original' item.
But....could I return the second (identical) item, but using the receipt from the original item ???
The two items are identical, and of course 'look' the same, so the cashier would not know any difference.
However, would they be differentiated when the item is scanned back in upon return?
It's worth £15 to me, so I'm keen to do it - but don't want to turn up at the shop to be told that I'm returning the 'wrong' item.....
Cheers

I would do it. I have done this before at other shops, not B&Q, but I cant see that it would be a problem. £15 is a lot of money to save, so I would say yes, do it. The scanned barcode will produce the same writing on both receipts.:hello: Danigrace :hello:0

I'm sure I've done similar before, but can't remember the specific instances.
However, I DO remember being caught out once!
I had bought two computer motherboards and attempted returning the second (identical) one with the ealier receipt.
But they did spot it, saying that I had returned the same item - they would only have known if they had recorded the serial number or similar for each item.
I'm just wondering if B&Q do similar and record something like the serial number of the items they sell (power tool in my case). There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't!0 -
Slightly different but maybe the post will help someone ..... to open a B & Q Trade Account is easy - thereafter (at least in my local store) any delivery over £50 is free. If a sheet of 8' x 4' plywood at £10 fits in your car great but if not buy it together with a £45 lock and get them both delivered for free. Take the lock back the following day for your re-imbursement. HTH

If you have a look at the bar code it will have an EAN, European Article Number which is specific to that product and barcode, this should be identical to your second product and therefore when they scan it there will be no way of telling if it is the first or second item. This is of course as long as they have not recorded a serial number as a previous post discussed. This should show on your receipt if they have.It might be a bargain, but it's even cheaper not to buy it!0

I did it in comet with 2 laptops,i very much doubt that the bar code is recorded on your receipt,if it is tho just says its faulty
They rip us plenty of times0 -
I visited B&Q today and placed an order for 74 paving slabs, using my 10% discount card. When I saw the 15% voucher , I phoned them - they said OK, come in on friday, cancel my order, and immediately re-order the same item. That will save me nearly £6, even if I cannot use my discount card also.:D0
