tax paid back in lump sum

Hi,

Im looking for a bit of advice.

The tax office sent me out a note stating that over the last 2 years I underpaid by £1500. They demanded that I send in a cheque for the full amount.
I did that by taking out money from my house deposit (which I know has no impact on them)

However due to various tax exemptions for the last 4 years they now owe me just over £1400 which they have confirmed.

The problem is they have said in a letter that they will adjust my tax code to compensate for this.

Is there any way I can get them to give me a lump sum back as it really was for a house that I want to buy as this is what they demanded of me?

Thanks
