Not on electoral roll for mortgage

Me and my boyfriend are in process of buying a house.
Our bank had to send our application to underwriters and they came back with a yes but asking why my partner wasn't on the electoral roll and for us to provide proof of our deposit.
We have got proof of our deposit but when my partner contacted the electoral roll he was told that although he is now registered he won't show up on electoral roll until 1st July. We obviously need the mortgage before then to secure the house.
Has anyone been in this situation before that can give us any advice? I am registered on electoral roll and my boyfriend isn't sure why he isn't registered (he's a British citizen and has been at the same address for 20 years). Is it really that important to prove he's on electoral roll? Just waiting on hearing from our mortgage advisor but would appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

Who does he currently live with?
How old is he? (Don't need to be precise if you don't want to, just wondered if most of those 20 years was as a child.)
Does anyone at his address pay council tax? Does he?
Does anyone at his address vote? Does he?
From time to time the household should get a letter through where you put who lives there (not the census, a single sheet of paper). Have they been getting this? If so, has he been on it? If he hasn't been on it, have they ever added him?
Has he been on the electoral role elsewhere (e.g. as a student) in these 20 years?

If they insist on it then it is important, no matter what we think. I can understand that the slackers at the council are pretty slow but maybe it'd show up on your credit file a bit earlier than July.

Last October, someone at your boyfriend's address got the electoral roll form and either ignored it, or sent it back minus your boyfriend's name.

If the property is, for example, occupied by your boyfriend's now single parent, they might be claiming single person's council tax discount and did not want to risk the council finding out there's someone else living there.

The underwriter's request is for a reason why he isn't on the electoral roll, not for him to be added so they'll proceed, or is it?

If all they want is the reason, write a simple letter stating he's lived there for 20 years and as he is not the owner of the property he is not the person who completes the submission each year.

He lives with his parents. He's 25. His parents pay council tax. None of his family vote.
I'm not sure about receiving a bit of paper asking who lives there as it would have been his parents who filled that in. He's never lived anywhere else in these 20 years as a student or anything so never registered elsewhere.
He didn't receive an electoral for last October. I didn't either!
I'm not sure what the underwriters want us to do as our mortgage advisor didn't respond to to reply we sent her and isn't answering her phone.

Usually they will just want proof of residency which would be bank statements etc showing the correct address. Usually that is sifficiant.

All you need to do is

    a) advise them that he wasn't responsible for filling in and returning the annual canvas, whoever was clearly missed him out
    b) send them a copy of the letter from the conucil confirming he will be added and appear as of June / July

The electoral roll questionnaire is sent to every household in October so the correct voting cards can be sent out for an election the following year.

You need to know what the lender actually needs from you. You seem to feel the mortgage has been approved, so it may simply be an explanatory letter. Failing that, they may require further evidence of address, but if he's already produced (eg) a driving licence and bank statement I'd struggle to understand why they would ask for something else as he's obviously passed the credit score following underwriting.

Await confirmation from the person handling your application.

    Thanks for your advice everyone.
Will do as you've suggested and tell our mortgage advisor that he wasn't responsible for filling out forms etc and hopefully a proof of address will suffice since he's lived there so long.
Will speak to mortgage advisor tomorrow I'm sure just kind of wanted to know where we stood in it all

Sounds good advice and well taken. (Doesn't always happen like that on these boards!)

I think he should also ask his parents what the deal is with the form that gets sent to them every October!

We are in the same situation of moving my girlfriend's electoral roll from one council to another and notified the new council in May they also said 1st of July for her to be taken off one register and added to the other. The roll is updated every two months I think, hence the reason for the delay.
