Langton Info Services - watch

Options
The cost of repairing my watch isn't far off the cost of purchasing a new one but unfortuantely the jewellers don't have any more stock. I've googled and found a couple of places that have it with Langtons Info being the cheapest. They seem okay but don't have a phone number from what I can see and their reviews are pretty good. Has anyone bought anything from them please? Payment is via PayPal but correspondence with them is via their Customer Services. Thanks.

  • Quote here from the Whcih guide to rights for shopping online (I can't post a link as I am new in this forum and it isn't allowed). It says: "The E Commerce Regulations also state that the online shop has to give full details of who they are and provide a geographical address and an email address at which to contact them." I can't find any geographical address on the Langton Info website. The reason for an address is to make sure you can enforce your legal rights, anyone in breach of the rules and not publishing their address could be operating a false shop front / fraudulent.
  • I do hope you receive an answer from someone because I too would like to purchase something from them but their website is very basic and not a lot of info. However, I did find that they sell thru Amazon, so that is a fair reference there. If anyone has ordered from them please respond - the purchase I am attempting is in excess of $100 and I certainly can't risk losing that much money.

I have had an email from them so at least someone is there answering questions! I'm still not too sure as there isn't a telephone number listed. OH said they look ok with a lot of feedback so go for it but I'm hesitant! lol If he hadn't broken my watch I wouldn't need a replacement !

Their prices were excessively high for the speakers I was looking for (double normal retail price). Their website is quite unusual in that you have to search to get a price rather than be presented with a collection of products to select from.

Not having any address or phone number on the website sets alarm bells ringing - who do you contact if you get any problems?

After some more digging, a nominet whois check gave these details (to a residential address in exeter):

    Domain name:
    langtoninfo.co.uk

    Registrant:
    Langton Info

    Registrant type:
UK Limited Company, (Company number: 491632)

    Registrant's address:
    Exstowe Exton
    Exeter
    Devon
    EX3 0PP
    United Kingdom

    Relevant dates:
    Registered on: 12-Dec-2006
    Renewal date: 12-Dec-2012
    Last updated: 02-Jan-2011

As the registration says it's for a UK Limited Company, I checked the Companies House website for the company number given: 491632 but this did not come up as a known company number. A generic companies house search on 'langton' gave about 20 companies but none were called 'langton info' or similar. This may mean that the business is run as a sole trader business or similar that doesn't need to be registered; but quoting a company number is strange.

If the owners of this company see this and want to comment it will hopefully clear up the status of this company.

However, as it stands I would not deal with this company.

This website is owned and operated by:

    Edward Bowditch Limited
    Exstowe Exton
    Exeter
    Devon
    EX3 0PP

Who do, at least, appear to exist - as a booksellers.

    They have 99.7% on Amazon

So it all looks above board.
    Still hesitant, though.
  • Do not use- go to trust pilot for reviews. They will rip you off. Thats why they don't like to give there number. The charge excessively then have very poor customer service.
    Avoid at all cost.
    Don't go there.
    You have been warned.
  • Avoid like the plague. Ordered a birthday present on the 6th for the 25th. Now the 28th and STILL not arrived. After a series of patronizing emails from Langton Info (Have you checked with other people living in your house?) which were clearly delaying tactics I demanded my money back - they told me it was company policy to wait a month before offering any refunds. Outrageous - am going to check with MSE people if this is even legal under distance selling regulations. I have posted this review on Trust Pilot as well - wish I'd checked there before ordering form this company.

{Text removed by MSE Forum Team} I bought something from them and they haven't even dispatched it yet. I run a business and needed the item to meet a deadline. I contacted them by email and told them my problem. They just palmed me off and told me to wait another 5 days. I asked to speak to a manager but my email was ignored by some person called Eleanor. They refused to refund me, as my order is waiting to be dispatched. I will now have to buy another one from another company. Stay away at all costs
