Urgent Sewing Machine Help Please...

Hi,

I have only just started sewing and my knowledge is practically zero so I hope this makes sense.

I cut all the fabric out last night to make shopping bags for Christmas gifts and then when I got out my sewing machine I noticed that the foot thingy is missing.

I hope that someone here might be able to tell me if this is a standard thing that I can buy that fits all sewing machines or if I will need to order one for my particular machine.

Just in case I haven't explained very well, I'm talking about the bit that presses down onto the fabric and the needle goes through the middle of it.

My machine has E & R Classic written on it and 'Aisin Europe' written on the back of the book if that helps at all.

Thanks for any info...having a bit of a panic as need to have the bags made by tonight to deliver tomorrow as am going away on Monday

  • Just a real quicky as I have to get off - the machine should have a foot with it. Is it a new machine? Is it in the packaging somewhere?

I know you can buy new feet from sewing machine shops if you need to.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
  • Thank you, it did come with a foot but I lent it to someone and hadn't looked at it since they returned it.

I'll pop into town after the school run and see if I can get a new one. We have a Singer shop so hopefully they might be able to help me - can't think of anywhere else in my town that would sell them.
  • Hi, do you have no feet with your machine? My first one, which was pretty basic, had a regular foot, a zipper foot, and a couple of others that I never used.

As far as I know, they tend to be standard, which yours probably is, as your friend was able to "borrow" it.

Update, just Googled it and E&R classic is made by Woolworths, link here. They may be able to help. Additionally, I'd take your instruction book to the Singer shop - they'll likely be able to work it out from there.

If your machine is light enough,it might be worth taking it to the shop with you. They often have spare feet and can try different ones to find the one that fits. My new machine has snap on feet which click onto a little holder thingummy but my older one has the screw in type .
  • Thanks guys for the help, I went to the Singer shop and found out it is closed on Thursday!!!!!

Anyway, I popped into the place where I did the sewing course and asked my friend Caroline if I could see if the bit on their sewing machines fitted mine...but it didn't :( so she said I could borrow one of their machines until after Christmas :j

So I managed to do everything I needed to today and now all I have to do is make a stocking for my daughter over the weekend!

I'm going away on Monday so I can go into the Singer shop when I get back.

The bit that the foot clips onto on mine detaches so I have put that in my purse to take with me to the Singer shop when I get back from my holidays.

Thanks so much for your help - I was having a real panic this morning. Thankfully it all seems to have sorted itself out.
