I'd say take out the "please keep this date free" as that's kinda suggested in the whole save the date thing.
Instead say something like "No need to RSVP now - full details and invitations will be sent out in mid 2012"

The reaseon I've added the RSVP thing is because a few people got confused by the RSVP and thought it was the actual invite.

    I agree with you RD.

I would however suggest that you are careful who you mail this to! I was asked by a friend to hold a date for her wedding a couple of years ago, planned for a date very close to my birthday. I usually go away at this time of the year and deliberately didn't book annual leave on this occasion for that purpose, thinking that I would be here - mistake! The invite never materialised and I didn't go away as I would have wished.

    We put:
    Save the Date!
    xxxxxx & xxxxxxx
Would be delighted to see you at their wedding on
    Saturday 6th October 2012
    Invitation to follow.

We then put email address/ phone number in case if any queries. We didn't bother putting where it was as we are having ceremony / reception in different places, actually different counties! Everyone knows where it is anyway!

This is a very good point! I would say that you don't need to send Save The Dates all at the same time, if there are some people that you are not yet sure will be invited, and others who definitely will be. There are lots of people H2B and I would like to invite, but due to budget and capacity constraints we are not telling people the date until we have finalised the guest list.
